Way of the Cross
Oct 2018 • Solo
St. Anna Chapel is a final station of the Way of the Cross which is located about 1 km far from the castle Landshut next to a narrow road leading from Bernkastel to the castle. Coming from the town you can see its back side decorated by beautiful mosaic. The other side with entrance as well as interior with the statue of Jesus's death body is much simplier but touching.

We could see this small building lit up on the hillside from our hotel, it was clearly of religious significance but looking through the camera lens we thought it likely to be a small chapel with a small cemetery.

We walked up from the bridge it took only 15 minutes though the road is steep. We were surprised to find it was a small ' Stations of the Cross' which are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The 14 devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of His last day. The 14 stations are on a zigzag path that leads to a small chapel.

There is a colourful mosaic on the outside (it is this that caught our eye from our hotel in the town below) and a sculpture and prayer bench within.

It was certainly worth the climb from town, it is open 24/7 and as a church is free to enter.
