Rheinfels Castle is the ruins of castle at Sankt Goar overlooking River Rhine. It has a nice position to defense in the past and currently many visitors come to tour around and stay in the hotel nearby.

We took the train from Bacharach and walked from the train station up the trail through the forest. Very easy. Great views at the castle. Self guided only 5 euros. The included museum was interesting. Lots of history.

We enjoyed our time at the ruins and the views from up there were amazing on a sunny summer day! Easiest to get on a shuttle bus from St. Goar's centre which cost 10 Euros for a family of four, one way. The entrance fee...More

Loved wandering around the ruins of this castle. Not crowded in the late afternoon. We missed the English speaking tour, so we used the one from Rick Steves' book and it was great. Quite a climb from the town of you are on foot but...More

I walked up the hill from Hotel Rheinfels down by the river and just passed through the castle and ruins quickly. I was taking the KD boat to Bacharach, so I was short on time. The views here are worth the hike up. I think...More

Rheinfels Castle dominates the St. Goar skyline. It is a short but steep hike or an easy drive from town center. From it other ridge walks are accessible. The Castle is a large ruin, now improved by an upscale “romantic” hotel built alongside. Entrance is...More

one thing I loved about these ruins is that they had labels for what things were. and the humongous cave that held the wines was really cool. I don't know if I would've gone out of my way to see the ruins, if we weren't...More

My sister and I thought about skipping this castle and we are glad we didn’t. It’s worth the 10 euro.

We completely enjoyed our time in these ruins. The view from the top it was amazing and the open spaces were fun to explore. We managed to get a feel for most everything we wanted to see within about 30 minutes, so I’m not sure...More

If you have only 1 hour 25 mins then I strongly recommend to take car or taxi to reach up so that you can atleast spend 30-40 mins at the castle. Coming down is easy and faster will take 15 mins so you can chose to walk down... More
