Amazing
Jun 2020
I learned about this monument by coincidence when someone shared its pictures on internet and decided immediatelly to go to see it in real. I was amazed and definitelly not regret two hours of driving.
There are several ways to get to the memorial. I parked my car at the hikers parking under the monument, first followed a marked trail and later very steep narrow unmarked trail up to the top. It was not the best decision in the hot weather and long sitting in the car. But magnificient building and breath taking views made me forget all the suffering.
I arrived from the top and I liked beautiful forrest around so much that I decided to skip the info center and the restaurant and continue hiking in neighborhood which I can trully recommend. There are several other little points of interests like Moltke tower, Wittekindsquelle or Margareth chapel not far from here.

Great views and a little history
Jul 2018 • Solo
In addition to the Dom you great great views of the surrounding countryside. Like another of your reviews I visited the monument several times in the 1970s when I was based in near by Minden with the army. The facilities have improved in recent years with an information centre and cafe/rest rooms. Great place to hike on the trails or up the hill to the monument or be lazy and drive up to the car park and walk the short distance to the Monument.

Worth a visit....!

This historical monument is certainly worth a visit, the newly build restaurant is comfortable with excellent views across the valley and river.
There are some great walks for the more able people leading to another pub/restaurant (Sadly closed at the moment).

I visited the monument several times in the 1970s when I was based there in the army. They have added an information centre and cafe/rest rooms in recent years. The view across to the TV tower and the wider plain is still spectacular. You can park part way up and hike it to the top if you feel energetic enough!

Great views
Jul 2018
People Typically spend up to 1 Hour there. Is open 24 hours a day. You need to walk from the parking area all the way to the monument. You pay for the parking too. The views are gorgeous from there. Near the parking they have a cafeteria and restrooms, you pay a small fee to enter.

Extraordinarily

A beautiful place from where you will have a unique panorama of the region . If you want to take a walk trough the Forest very good if not there is always for example a bus or with your car . Once you are there make as much Foto’s as possible, you will no regret it at all. If you are hungry no problem you can eat and drink something quick close to the bus station. Don’t forget to write a postcard to your Family and friends . It is not at all expensive and will be a great memory for later.

Recently reopened
Aug 2018 • Friends
This monument has been in place since 1896, but has recently been renovated with the addition of an informative visitor centre and restaurant under the terrace. The monument can be approached either on foot along the path running the length of the Wiehengebirge or via the narrow winding road by vehicle. If the latter be aware that even midweek the car park gets very full and at peak times traffic chaos has ensued according to local friends. Parking is by payment and there is then a comfortable walk to the monument itself; the steps up the monument are steep and uneven as befits their age and may not be suitable for older visitors or very young children. Great views from the terrace and monument.

Lovely view
Jun 2018 • Friends
Monument is easily reached from carpark (where you have to pay to park of course). Incline is manageable however the steps are very steep to climb to reach the monument (but there is a rail). View is amazing and definitely worth it to show the region. Renovations in place for restaurant which will be below/in front of monument. There is also a gift shop (with ice cream for those hot hungry souls) near the carpark. Lovely day

A great monument of the emperor.

Currently the site is undergoing major refurbishment, building a restaurant just below the monument and will be offering a great view of the river Weser and surrounding area.
