Very unique tour ride up the hill to the Castle and the Ruins! A cute Railway that dates back from the 19th century takes you up to the ruined castle Burg Drachenfels at the top and the Drachenburg Castle halfway. Even though this amazing railway...More

Certainly the busiest tourist attraction we visited on our Rhine Odessey, with long queues for the tickets and next train. Fortunately they were running trains every 15 minutes instead of the advertised 30. Some amazing views from the top station and castle.

I thought this little tram was so cute! It's not like anything I had seen before and it brought us up to the schloss drachenburg in such a cool unique way. Definitely recommend

The Cog Railway is a fun little excursion that gives you some amazing views of the Rhine Valley. The price is reasonable, though you may feel like it’s expensive for the length of the journey. In reality though, you’re paying for the novelty of the...More

The return fare (€10 per adult) is very reasonable. The base station is a 5 minute walk alongside the railway line from the DB station and is easy to find. Well signposted. Trains were running every 15 mins as it was busy. You can stop...More

When one thinks of a "cog railway" you tend to associate it with one of the early steam engines etc. The Drachenfelsbahn is not of this "ilk" - but as a modern, efficient tramway type system it is practical and does exactly what is intended...More

A very good still working railway and so pleased it was. As we could not have walked up to visit the castle at the top. We returned approx. 12.00 noon and there was quite a long queue, so go early or later.

A must see for the great view from the top and a great restaurant. The walk to the castle is also a healthy walk down the hill.

You can take a train to Troisdorf and a bus from there. Same travel time and much, much cheaper. I did not see donkeys, but the vintage tram is still in operation.
