Visited just today. It's currently not the tourist high season so it was a very peaceful visit where a handful of people had the whole place to themselves. This also meant that the funicular isn't in service at this time of year, which is fine...More

Before I forget, take the train... ! Ok... situated up a rather large hill this imposing building looks too new to be true and indeed has had extensive renovation.. Take the audio tour, no guide, as it details lots of info... you must leave ID...More

The castle is halfway up Drachenfels and can be reached by the Drachenfelsbahn (cog railway) or by walking up. From the outside this looks like a fairy tale. You would have to be pretty unromantic not to like this place. Inside there is some nicely...More

This was a very interesting castle to visit in Germany. We went on a rainy day, so was good to be indoors. There is so much history in this beautiful place. We had a very good guide who really knew a lot of the history...More

This a beautiful castle to visit along the Rhine. It was built in the late 1800's so it isn't as historic as most of the castles on the Rhine. But the interior is lovely with romantic painted murals throughout. It reminded me of a smaller...More

We had a conducted tour of the private apartments in this castle/schloss. Unfortunately, they were filming the German version of Antiques Roadshow, so there were some rooms we were not able to visit. The schloss has been tastefully restored to the era when it was...More

This is unlike the "robber barons'" castles further upstream in that it is complete and relatively modern. It is nonetheless still well worth seeing - there are furnished rooms, works of art, very impressive stained glass windows and great viewpoints over the Rhine Valley all...More

We were visiting Cologne and Bonn, then decided to see something a little different. Drachenburg Castle is highly recommended. A short 15 minute walk up a hill from a convenient car park, or train trip, with ample food and drink facilities too. Pretty countryside gives...More

You can get there on foot, but I highly recommend taking the tram. It costs about 10 euros and it takes about 5 minutes to get to the top.

Take Route 66 from Bonn central station to Königswinter Fähre. Then walk 5mins to Drachenfelsstraße 53. This is small train station to castle. Or you could hiking to the top.
