Very nice old trees

The place is situated in the middle of the city. You can reach it easyly by bus or by feet.
It is the oldest botanic-garden in Europe. It is a must on a buckle list of Gießen.
When you are in town for other sights, you can have a break in the green and relax for a while.

Germany's oldest (in original location)

Great Botanical Garden, right in the centre, being renovated currently, so it will get even better. The Darwin path is particularly attractive. The summer concerts are great.

Underwhelmed and unwelcome

Rode my bike to the Botanic Garden today - excited to see Germany's oldest botanical garden (still on the original site). Maybe it was because the bicycle hadn't been invented when the garden was established, but there are no bike racks inside or out. So I wheeled my bike in to be accosted by a very angry lady who told me I had to leave my bike outside. When I explained to her that there was nowhere to lock it up and the 1.8 m high stone wall was not an option she reverted to pointing, yelling and so I left. For a Botanic Garden not to embrace bicycles - one had to wonder what century they are in.
Don't bother going. It may be good once they have finished the renovations. And maybe they will have a place eto park your bike. After all, it is the city that says it has the highest proportion of university students in Germany - and most of those can't afford Mercedes!

Lovely gardens

I spent a couple of weeks in Giessen so I frequently wandered into the gardens to sit on a bench with my take away coffee and a book. The gardens could use a bit of upkeep but over all a lovely way to spend a couple of hours. There is no fee to go in.

Most of the Gießen citizens take a normal walk trough this park. But if you stop and have a deeper look at the nice flowers and plants you will love that "Garten"

Nice old trees

A small Botanical Garden; it is still a the same location where it was founded in the 17th century. Some nice old trees, but no old architecture. A nice stroll when you happen to be in the town.

It's a nice place, where they organize little events. There are too many work in progress area and the opening time is restricted.

Green Oasis in the Heart of the City
Oct 2016 • Friends
Founded in 1609, the Botanical Garden is credited as the oldest one in Germany. Beautiful nature escape within the city, with approximate 8000 species of plants, there is something to see for every taste. Lovely way to spend some peaceful and quiet time. Interesting fact is that visitors can have a hands-on experience with more than 120 exhibits.
It is open daily, free of charge. The entrance, not that easy to find, is located at Senckenbergstr. No. 17.
