Roaming the ruins
Oct 2019
This is an interesting and fun ruin to explore, with spectacular 360-degree views. When we found out it's possible to stay within the castle grounds--whoa! (Check AirBnB or the castle's website.) Once the gate closes in early evening, the place is otherwise deserted and we were free to explore the whole thing. There is a restaurant and a couple of apartments in the still-historical but non-ruined part--the exterior is ancient but the interior has all of the modern amenities while preserving the medieval atmosphere. Do it if you can!

Nice view with history flair
Oct 2018 • Friends
The castle dates back to one of the oldest on the wine route known as Bergstrasse. It has been restored and presents now a clear facade. From the tower we could experience a pretty view with all the autumn colored leaves. We had lunch at the restaurant and enjoyed a 'Schnitzel' (typical local dish) with a glass of tasty apple wine. Nice program for a relaxing afternoon. There are also several hiking riutes through the surrounding forest that lead to the castle. We went by car - there is a parking lot free of charge up there.

Beautiful castle ruins with nice views
May 2019 • Family
After a visit to Frankenstein Castle I was positively surprised. Auerbach Castle ruins offer better views and I found it more beautiful. Free entry. Open every day year round (10am-5pm).

Loved this Castle
Mar 2019 • Family
We love the castle ruins as my son is 2 yrs old and does not have the patience for the more museum types. That being said, this castle is so fun to explore. There are two towers that give such amazing views and beautiful castle grounds to walk around. The price (FREE) just can't be beat! There is a super cute town below that has shopping and restaurants.

A great place to visit
Sep 2017 • Friends
My Chinese friend loved it :) Very authentic flair. You can climb the towers and have a look over most villages near by. Also a wonderful place for kids to play knight and princess! They are offering several events a year of the most different kinds, might be worthwhile to check what is on while you're in the region.

Castle ruins worth a visit
May 2018 • Couples
We walked up the hill from Auerbach Bensheim through woodland to the castle.
A well preserved ruin and great views. The castle is free to visit but beware, a coffee costs €5.

Beautiful
Jan 2018 • Couples
For some reason I like this sort of old castle or ruins rather than the nice fancy beautiful castles. So this is my kind of thing and I truly enjoyed it . Beautiful .

Wonderful! Views!
Nov 2017 • Couples
I call this my must-see attraction when I take friends to this area. The visit is free and one can just take time to explore the ruin and take pictures of the stunning views. I have never seen this castle crowded. One of my favorites!
