Perfect ski area when the level of skiing is not that good. The runs are relatively short and not that difficult; but for a couple of days it is quite fun. Mostly chair lifts, and lines are fast. Kids really enjoyed it

Nice for a shortski or to learn skiing. 3 days are enough to ski this whole place down. Lot's of Dutch (as almost everywhere). The food is expensive and not so tasty. Been here and done that now but Austria is my favourite skiing country!

Our fourth year in a row. We find both ski hire and ski pass to be great value. The pistes are well looked after and retained even in warmer weather. The huge number of snow cannon assure the pistes. The lift system is very up to date and efficient. The on piste cafe's are busy, friendly and not too expensive. Winterberg is a 4.5 hour drive from Rotterdam/Zeebrugge - a bit busy in the Ruhr valley, but otherwise an okay drive. This place is a fraction of the cost of the Alpine resorts and is superb for families. Serves mostly Dutch, German and Belgian visitors - which we like.

I am sorry to leave such a negative review to what may have once been a nice ski resort.

We came for a long weekend in the mid of Feb, after Winterberg had a week of snow and the resort was boasting 20km open runs. In reality, the runs were half covered in snow, the rest was mud, tree branches, tiny rocks, you name it. In my opinion, 80% of these should have remained closed as they looked plainly dangerous to me.

On a positive side, Winterberg had a nice party atmosphere and looks family friendly. But absolutely no point to come for the ski.

The ski facilities in Winterberg a world class. The slopes are easy and perfect for beginners.
If most of the members of your family are beginners, I would recommend for the first 2-3 days to try route 10, 25 and 9 - they have a common upper point with chairlift - Bremberg. Route 10 is the most easy one - and this is where you can learn skiing if you are absolute beginner.
The most convenient parking is P4 for route 10, the largest parking is P3 - for route 25. P2 is too small and usually there are no available lots.
The restaurant at the base of 10 is really good for lunch or break. The prices are reasonable.

Spent a week here with friends from Gutersloh. Though not particularly challenging, the skiing area is well groomed, and compared to the alpine resorts, superb value. The area is well served with snow cannon, adn there are a couple of short black runs.

It is an ideal area to practice skills and is ideal for beginner / intermediate to practice with confidence.

lift prices are a third of the price of the alps, as is equipment hire.

Couldn't find anything to criticize the resort for, went on a week with some snow but warm and losing it, was amazed how well the resort managed the snow they had and how well the runs stood up to the damage of rain, warm air and lots of skiers

One of the best locations to ski as a beginner, its routes are not too short a distance and I enjoyed the scenery here every time I was skiing down to the bottom, and after a couple of hours of skiing I always go and have a nice hot chocolate drink in the café, good experience one I will never forget.

We are a couple from India, we came to dusseldorf, germany during the month of april and my wife wanted to see the snow, since she has never seen it during her 21 years of life! We come from the southern most part of India where it does not snow ever!! But unfortunately it was not snowing down there in germany when we arrived. And for her, winterberg was a boon! It was such a pleasure to see her squealing with happiness when she saw the snow for the first time! Since there was no snowfall, we couldn't enjoy the fresh snow, but the 1 week old snow was no less fun! It was around 60cms. We boarded a train from dusseldorf. Once we reached the winterberg railway station, we had no clue where the skiing place was, since we donot understand german language, and the sign boards all seemed greek and latin to us! We just tried to converse with people and couldn't figure out their directions. Atlast, a young lad, carrying a skiing board came to our rescue and we hopped on a bus with him towards the skiing spot. (Sorry, we dint even know the name of the location, we were newbies around).. once we reached the spot we were awestruck with all that wonderful snow and people skiing all around. I know i might seem exaggerating, but as first time Indians seeing all those skiing kids, the rope car.. it was all so beautiful for us! It was very tempting to us to ski, though we hd no clue how to do it. We were in a dilemma, if we should try it without experience or if it was too risky! We tried asking people around if it was okay to give it a go without any first hand experience! And with all the different suggestions coming up from friendly germans with broken english, we finally decided not to miss the lifetime opportunity. So we rented a skiing shoe from one of the shops nearby and rofl! It was not as easy as it seemed to be! Forget about skiing,We couldnt even stand with thoes shoes for 5 mins straight...! So gladly we took turns to fall down trying to ski helplessly! And not to mention people getting amused seeing us "skiing":D.. so yea.. it was one memorable experience for us! Looking forward to coming back to the place again!

Pros: good skiing facilities around.
Friendly people. Training is also provided.

Cons: there was no good restaurant close by. English sign boards would be of help for travelers coming from a long way. Training for not so experienced people is not available at all times.
