As some of the other reviews have stated this is a nice surprise! Beautiful castle in a small lesser known town near Heidelberg. We come to this area often and like to come to Schwetzingen and spend the day walking the grounds and having lunch in one of the cafes in town. We also recently did the tour in the... More

This place was not on our itinerary, but we happened across it and couldn't pass it up. We were unable to go into the castle itself, but understand that there really isn't much to it, the grounds are a spectacular place to walk. Several styles are represented on these grounds, sculpted gardens like those in Salzburg as well as English... More

Schwetzingen may not be that well known to travelers. It is a neat city to visit, easy to get around, plenty of pedestrian areas and shops as well as restaurants. The castle was the main attraction for us as the family could roam the grounds and admire the beautiful landscape well groomed and kept up. One can spend hours just... More

Nothing really prepares you for the view once you walk through the main entrance. Two wings of the palace swings out on each side. Gardens, pathways, statues, and fountains stretch out for as far as you can see. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time here. We only had two hours and it was not enough.

Absolutely stunning. Walking in through the main gates you are struck by the imposing buildings. However, nothing gets you ready for your walk through the inside gateway. Massive buildings both right and left as well as stunning gardens and fountains. This palace was the summer residence of the Lord of the Heidelburg Castle. The residence is massive and is in... If I could, I would come back for every season, bring my paints and sketch pad and stay for days! The gardens, buildings, statuary, ponds, and fountains are very impressive and worth saving a good part of your day for. Have a fully charged camera with a fresh sd card ready, you'll need it! The tour through the castle was... More

My family visited the palace gardens in August of this year and had a great time. The scenery is beautiful with so many photo opportunities. We went on a Saturday and it was free to get in.

If you go to Schwetzingen you must go here. There is a small entrance fee for the grounds and another to go inside the castle. We chose only to walk to grounds which are expansive. Statues are also fantastic. Great picture taking opportunities.

Serene and beautiful . . allow an entire day there to fully enjoy! We appreciated the planning and development that went into the building of this immense landscape. The side gardens and statuary were incredible!
