We walked from the town of Oberkirch up to the castle ruins. It is approximately a 1 1/2 mile walk each way with it obviously being an easier walk on the way back! The castle was built in 1050 and it is really amazing that any of it still exists at all. The views are spectacular and it is a... More

I parked my car near the stadt garden and walked up through residential neighborhoods to the ruin. The reviews here are right that the view is magnificent. The walk was uphill approaching it but enjoyable and not too long. I am not sure if it was a mile or so to walk from the garden. Afterward, I got donerteller at... More

it's a pop-in, short stop kind of place; it's cool. it's a ruins so no entrance fee and few people. it's like the only thing to do in the area, but it has some character. you could spend an hour there, maybe more if you were looking for some good photography shots. the parking is lower down the hill, unless... I visited these ruins in June. I had the place to myself. The views are breath taking. I found the ruins to be very interesting. The place is free and is not well documented. I would suggest researching it prior to coming to have the historic context. In it's time the place must have been grand. If you have kids,... More

I walked the 2 km from Oberkirch station on a warm August afternoon, and it was definitely worth the uphill climb. The scenery on the way, of vineyards, orchards and lovely homes and gardens, along with patches of cool forest, makes it interesting. Even with lots of photo stops, it only took half an hour right to the ruins. The... More

Ruined castle, it's a long way up a very winding and narrow road and you have to park considerably far below the actual castle. We admired it from the car park and then drove down again.

We parked in Oberkirch on the main street and walked here - after finding a hiking path. Definitely worth it - the ruins of the 1000 year old castle stir the imagination, and the restaurant beside it is lovely with great food and service.
