We accessed the castle by road train(fun). The castle itself is not very old( mainly 19th century) and apart from the splendidly presented dining room is of little interest inside. The towers and courtyard are good, as are the views of the town and area....More

The terraces offer a great view on the city. Don’t miss out on the big dining hall on the second round tour!

We were in Wernigerode and had a morning to spare so took the mini road train up to the castle. Some of our friends walked and said it was a grueler so I think we made the best choice although the cost was seven euros...More

I truly recommend to take an audio guide. Interiors are accessible without a guide and there are a few information panels inside but it is not enough to learn about the castle and its history. During my visit a big part of the castle was...More

The castle was closed when we visited, but the walk up the hill for the sunrise views was worth it. We were able to wander around the castle walls and take plenty of photos with no issues. Would loved to have been able to go...More

The castle represents a typical castle of the 19th century in Germany. We loved the fairy tale like atmosphere in and around the castle in the late winter afternoon when it got dark outside... :-)

Whilst staying in the area between Christmas and the New Year, we visited Wernigerode Castle. Having taken the little road train up from the town centre (it's a steep walk up otherwise ... and we were feeling lazy!), our first disappointment came when we wanted...More

With some beautifully preserved rooms from the late 1800s-early 1900s, this castle is a tiny delight. Its a bit of a steep trek up if walking, but you can take a little road-train or horse and cart from town.

The castle is on top of a hill overlooking the city, you can easily spot the place from the city center. You can walk or jog from downtown to the castle and enjoy the views as well as visiting inside.
