The streets of Wernigerode are narrow with historic timber framed buildings. They do seem to have people living in them but it is certainly a Disneyesque town. You will pass the Rathaus on your walking tour and take a few minutes to admire before moving on to the next attraction.

The Town Hall dates from the 15th century and is located at the central Marktplatz in a pedestrian area of Wernigerode in the Harz.
The area is beautiful with old and well preserved buildings and the Town Hall itself is situated on the south side of the square. The bold colors and the carved walls of the building are really outstanding.

While the town hall (Rathaus) located in the Market Square (Marktplatz) of Wernigrode claims prime position in the town, the visitor to Wernigrode will thoroughly enjoy walking along the narrow streets and soaking up the medieval feeling that abounds. Be warned though that the streets' cobblestones are quite raised with wide gaps between them and many pavements (sidewalks) are uneven. This makes it challenging for anyone with impeded walking skills.
While the treasures of this Harz gem were not available to most Europeans between 1961 and 1989, the town has done wonders in the past thirty years to make it a welcoming venue for all visitors to enjoy. I hope my photos whet your appetite for making a visit.

beautiful building and beautiful square, such a great place to sit and watch the world go by. Nice little water feature in the middle, I liked the town hall clock too.

Wernigerode town hall is definitely the most picturesque town hall I have ever seen. I couldn't get enough watching it and taking pictures. Even if you were not looking for it you wouldn't miss it as it is located in the center of the town where most of the life happen. But I recommend you to pay attention because it is the most beautiful building in Wernigerode.
