Don’t expect to much sensation from this good old hill lift (can not call it mountain lift 🤩), nevertheless, it’s nice 10 -15 minutes uplifting even for people with acrophobia.

Old style cable car

Ideal if you return from the lake. you can take your bicycle on the cable car very handy, because the climb to Waldeck is very steep.

It's classic, but not a lot to see

We did a round trip just to experience it, the trees are close blocking a lot of the view. Good for transport from the base up closer to the castle.

Great way to get down to the Lake - little two person cabins

Great fun, although a little wobbly and not that cheap for a return ticket - but a definite must! Cabins only take 2 people, no room for bikes etc..

Charming cable car ride to town.

The Waldecker Bergbahn is a charming heritage cable car located at the end of the shore promenade. After exploring the lakeside with its parks, promenade and swimming area we took the cable car up the hill to the Waldeck castle and historical town. The cable cars are painted in bright colours and a little rickety, but that's all part of the experience! We enjoyed views across the forest and lake as we ascended, the trip takes about ten minutes each way. At the top, explore the quaint town of Waldeck with its historic buildings, stunning views, garden and castle. Cycles and dogs can also be carried on the cable car for a small fee.

The staff running the cable car were incredibly friendly and helpful, especially given our limited German! The price to ride is very reasonable and you can also buy a combi ticket that also covers the castle should you wish.

Don't miss this if your in the area, it is a fun family experience.
