This museum is a pearl for schweinfurt. If you are interested in art then take a closer look. And after that enjoy a coffee or wine nearby

Fabulous collection
Mar 2018 • Solo
The museum has an incredible collection of German art housed in a building built specifically to showcase art. The building has wonderful light and angles to provide optimal settings for the artwork. The docents are very knowledgeable and it is well worth paying for a guide to get the background and highlights. An English guide can be arranged. If you love art- don’t miss this jewel.

It's surprising to find a museum in this small city with the high quality of art it displays. The building is Modern and everything is nicely shown. A great addition to this area.

Great museum with excellent special exhibition
Nov 2016 • Family
Decadence and Art and how to interpret the paintings and put them into context. Till March next year this special exhibition is on. Outstanding collection with sketches also from Klimt and Toulouse Lautrec. The German painters take center stage and rightly so. Best is to take part in a guided tour. You should unterstand German for that though.

Great collection of caricatures on the first floor followed by some 19th and 20th century classical art on the second floor. Well worth the visit!

unique and elegant

It is a beautiful museum in the midst of Schweinfurt with its unique architecture. It shows the paintings of the 18th and 19th century. It has special exhibits of famous German and European painters, which changes from time to time. It offers a huge collection of the paintings of Carl Spitzweg. Some of the paintings are from Carl David Friedrich, Lovis Corinth, Max Liebermann, and other famous painters of the time. It is located near the city hall, infront of the City Library Ebracherhof, and near the beautiful Gutermann Promenade.

A must see

This museum is really well done. The art is great, the presentation the building makes to compliment the art is really cool. The architect did an amazing job designing a building that symbolizes many of the concepts the 19th century art insides reveals. Go, it is very nice.

Carl Spitzweg
Apr 2014 • Solo
This museum has one of the largest collections of works by Carl Spitzweg, the Biedermeyer period painter whose paintings depict the inward turn of German society following the failure of the 1848 efforts in Germany to unify their part of Europe. Currently the museum's own large collection is being supplemented by paintings loaned by other museums creating probably the best Spitzweg exhibit ever created. It is evident that Spitzweg spent considerable time developing his work from sketches and drawings to the finished painting. Spitzweg is one of those painters whose work is much deeper than one might think on first sight. This special exhibit will be available until November 30, 2014.
