The special exhibition "Spitzweg - The Red Umbrella - Love and Marriage at Spitzweg" is worth a visit, detailed and informative; the interest of visitors confirms this.
Unfortunately, we have found that the light glare effect for people wearing glasses has not been reduced or eliminated in the display cases of the permanent exhibition.
Furthermore, it is incomprehensible that the museum parking garage is closed for cleaning on a day the museum is open and that there is a traffic jam due to the lack of meaningful information - why can't the work be carried out on a Monday when the museum is closed and there is correspondingly less demand for parking?

The Spitzweg collection alone is worth the price of admission. There always seems to be a special exhibition, most of which are icing on the cake. It is not fair to compare the Museum Georg Schäfer with the big museums in Berlin and Munich, but it certainly compares favorably with most smaller museums.

This museum has one of the largest collections of works by Carl Spitzweg, the Biedermeyer period painter whose paintings depict the inward turn of German society following the failure of the 1848 efforts in Germany to unify their part of Europe. Currently the museum's own large collection is being supplemented by paintings loaned by other museums creating probably the best Spitzweg exhibit ever created. It is evident that Spitzweg spent considerable time developing his work from sketches and drawings to the finished painting. Spitzweg is one of those painters whose work is much deeper than one might think on first sight. This special exhibit will be available until November 30, 2014.

The museum has an incredible collection of German art housed in a building built specifically to showcase art. The building has wonderful light and angles to provide optimal settings for the artwork. The docents are very knowledgeable and it is well worth paying for a guide to get the background and highlights. An English guide can be arranged. If you love art- don’t miss this jewel.

Modern building with a great collection of Spitzweg paintings and many other famous German painters. And, for a break I can recommend the apple pie!

This museum is really well done. The art is great, the presentation the building makes to compliment the art is really cool. The architect did an amazing job designing a building that symbolizes many of the concepts the 19th century art insides reveals. Go, it is very nice.

This museum is a pearl for schweinfurt. If you are interested in art then take a closer look. And after that enjoy a coffee or wine nearby

It's surprising to find a museum in this small city with the high quality of art it displays. The building is Modern and everything is nicely shown. A great addition to this area.

Hi. I wonder if anyone can tell me how many works by Caspar David Friedrich are at this museum and whether they are on permanent display ? I have also asked the museum directly but they may not get back to me in time. I am trying to see as many of his works as possible whilst in Germany. Thanks

as far as i know there is no cd Friedrich. you should go to "Alte nationalgalerie" in Berlin.
