A bit commercialized?

I know the storyline of the Nibelungen saga but not the detail. Maybe that is why the museum was not that interesting? I found the part about WWII and the use of the saga and Wagner's music interesting because I did not know much about that. Not essential to visit but it still gives some insight into the saga and the characters

Disappointing

This could be so much better. The legend of the Niebelungen is an interesting tale, but this museum doesn't do it justice. There is a good section on how the stories were seized upon and misused by the Nazis, but otherwise it's very dry. OK for a wet day but not much else to recommend it.

The history of the Nibelungen saga and Xanten's Siegfried
Dec 2017 • Solo
When you know about the Nibelungen Saga this is an interesting museum to visit. It takes you through the history of the Saga and the Siegfried character who came from Xanten. Also the interpretation by Richard Wagner and the embrace and misuse by the Nazi's before WW2 can be seen. The entrance fee is only € 4,- and € 3,- when you stay in one of the hotels in Xanten

Agree with the other reviewers

I agree with the other reviewers that this is not exactly a must-see. It is all about the Siegfried-saga, and one gets a crude overview of that fairly famous story. There are items on display by which parts of the story are told. I'm not sure whether it is a good idea to build a museum around just 1 story. Maybe a few other sagas should be included. Or maybe they could turn it into an entire experience where you go from one episode to the next, maybe even with some interaction. The old building is nice.

Museum without fantasy
Apr 2014 • Business
They have one of the most fanous storys of Germany and a great place to present it, even a medieval tower. The museum is very boring, no sound effects or whatever, very old fashioned

a place I can easily miss

That´s the only place where I don´t go with friends and guests.
Some of the exhibits are rather interesting, but one needs a guide to understand what the place is about.
