There is a lovely little square surrounded by very interesting restaurants.
Parking seems to be a bit of a problem although we were lucky.

Given the castles of Europe, this one would be more of a very grand stately manor home of red brick. Set on expansive grounds bordering Lake Eutin, the schloss was originally a medieval fortress (as were most). We took a self-guided tour but with occasional guidance from the few women docents strategically located about each floor. The place is small enough to navigate easily and without the crowds, that alone a pleasant experience! (There is a gift shop across a courtyard.) Of particular note is the throne room featuring two silver thrones side by side covered in dark blue fabric on a dark blue dais, the yellow ball- or dining room, rich stark tapestries and red canopy royal bed. There is also an interesting two-story chapel with gallery in one wing of the castle.

... to find a new good restaurant in Eutin. Food was really good, service attentive and surroundings/atmosphere a little special, with a touch of real class... just what has been missing in Eutin!!!
Do so hope they succeed, we'll certainly be back.

Bring at least 2 1/2 hours if you want to listen to the audio guide (free with the regular entry fee, but you need to leave some ID with the staff). This place reveals more rooms, and more about history, than some bigger, more well-known stately homes. The rooms, whilst mostly not filled to the last inch with stuff, are well-furnished.

The audio guide (in German or English) is well-made, though the style is sometimes a bit annoying, but very child friendly: a narrator walks you through the rooms, the iPad showing the blueprint of the building, where one is, and picks up the location. The narrator interacts with figures of the past who she "meets". We learned a lot, also about how this local powerhouse ruled the local town, and also about the regional politics.

We didn’t have time to explore all the palace gardens; the bits near the house we could see were not particularly interesting, looking like most public gardens / parks. However, there is a ‘kitchen garden’ a short walk away that might have been more interesting, which we didn’t get to.

The Schloss itself is definitely worth a visit to Eutin.

I visited Eutin town and the castle ,which lies on a headland of the Great Lake Eutin.
I discovered the past of a small territory of the Prince-Bishops of Lubeck .I was impressed most by the beauty of the garden -monument ,which was transformed into an English landscape one by Duke Peter Friederick Ludwig until 1803 .The castle was inhabited until the 20 th century ,now it is a museum .There is a glass panel inside providing information about the era of Enlightenement and the absolutist government of Eutin Prince -Bishopric .

The castle is a nice place to walk around, first the gardens, (free) then you have to pay to enter the castle. We enjoyed it. It dates from11th century and several famous people have stayed there- f.x.Katherine the Great

Just a short train ride from Lubeck is the pleasant town of Eutin with a nice market square. The gem however is the castle and it's wonderful gardens which stretch over a large part of the lakeside. The castle itself is not as grand as others, see Schwerin, but if you have seen the gardens you might as well have a wander round. Refreshments are available in the central courtyard.

We arrived just as a large male choir started singing a series of sea chanteys. They were accompanied by two accordion players and a young boy on a guitar. The crowd were singing and clapping along and really enjoyed it.
We had been into the castle before so skipped that.

Small, quaint and pleasant. Unfortunately, Monday is a quiet day, so we didn't get to see much other than the grounds, which were nice. Restaurant menu looked promising though...

Ok if you happen to be in the area, but not worth a visit on its own. The boat trip to get there was good as was the little town of Eutin.
