Very old stone pillar .... from around 700 AD.

Probably the oldest (dateable) stone monument in Ireland, early 700AD. The inscription describes an event before 714 AD …. Well worth going to check out !
Sat nav co-ordinates to where you need to park are these :
N54.04.449
W 006.22.881
Park near the red letterbox, and then walk through two and half fields ... wear walking boots .... it'is really, really muddy !! But well worth it when you get there !!

hidden gem!

We spotted this stone on a tourist map and decided to explore. You have to walk through 3 small fields, but styles are helpfully provided. The stone itself is hidden away in a tree-lined enclosure accessed by a gate. Very atmospheric! The carvings are beautiful and a helpful information panel is provided. Worth a wee wander if you're exploring the area!
