A perfect thing to do during a summer day. You could literally spend the whole day strolling in and around the museum. Absolutely perfect to take kids with you as well. Lots of apple trees around. A decent restaurant to eat something or carry something with you. I would definately recommend this to people.

This is where we take friends from foreign countries to take them on a journey into a Germany several centuries ago. There is a nice restaurant, many crafts to watch (with shows and explanations) a bakery with marvelous bread and rolls and cinnamon rolls (amongst the best I have ever tasted) and a shop with good cook books and traditional... I really enjoyed wandering around this place, looking at all the quaint buildings. What a refreshing way to spend the afternoon! It is closed in Winter though.

We love visiting the Museum as it has lots of different buildings full of character set in village settings. The smell of old wood smoke fills the old buildings giving it more authenticity. There are horse and wagon rides for those that can't walk over the vast walking trails around the villages. There are old crafts demonstrated and an amazing... More

this is a day walking tour thought history. Make sure you bring layers of clothing and comfortable walking shoes. Also a camera because you will see some breathtaking images.

Best outdoor museum I have visited. There are many acres to explore with small villages authentically built. Each house is apparently an original that has been moved to the museum. Many old-fashioned trades are kept alive and the whole family can watch them crafting products. Not only the usual blacksmith and baker works on site, also hat making, paper production... More

This is on a vast site with many buidings to visit with activities going on in most of them explaining how things were produced or made. There is much to see with interest for all ages. It has good paths mostly of cobblestone so care is needed for the less nimble. Avoid the cafe imediately next to the entrance as... More

The buildings were very interesting but you need to be ready to walk quite long distances as the area is spread out. However little buses are available.

The Freilicht museum is a very large open air museum, with many interesting buildings/farmhouses/barns, gardens, animals etc. You see how life in WestPhalen many, many years ago was. You could go there for half a day, but in fact that is too short to see everything. There is a large terrace and restaurant to eat and drink and stroll back.
