This truly is a magnificent statue but I was a bit stunned by the charge for everything. €2.50 for parking, €3 to enter the statue and 50c for the toilets which were not particularly clean and were lacking soap! Now I know these are all low prices but comparing it to the nearby Kaiser Wilhelm Denkmal at Porta Westfalica which... More

Entry is free but to go up the statue you need to pay; a pass can be purchased on site and a "combo" ticket can be purchased which can be used at Externsteine too. There's a little museum with information in both German and English and a little shop selling Hermannsdenkmal themed items. Only recommend visiting on dry days as... More

if you love the history of the Roman Empire than this is a great little piece to see. Its HUGE, you cant begin to imagine how big it really is. It's worth noting that this area is generally accepted as not being the area of the battles that it is so dedicated around. they are further south west. But its... More

Nice job done to make legend live through centuries. Just choose approximate place where the good guy beat the bad guys, in a time period of patriotic movement era and voilà tourism place is established. Good, especially if you can spot it from 10km, but as you are approaching, the is no glue from which side you will be arriving.... More

You don't really appreciate the scale of this monument until you see it. Very good informational signs and explanations in both German and English. There is a great view from the top and it was great to hear the church bells ringing out across the valley below. It was a very short hike to the site and very easy. The... More

This is a great place to visit and pretty iconic of the area. We hiked here once and that was fun. It can be seen from around the area.

The Hermannsdenkmal is a nice hike from Detmold, which is good to combine with the Externsteine. The statue is massive, but do not forget to take coins for the machine, so you can climb it too. We visited in winter, but it felt like summer it will be totally overcrowded. The Kletterpark next to it was due to winter closed...... More

I visit Hermanndankmal every time I come to Paderborn & Detmold. As a child I spent a lot of time in the area due to this being were family lived. I now visit whenever I can.

I used to work in Detmold, 39 years ago, and every Sunday we used to go up to Herman the German for a Sunday walk and then down to Detmold for a sticky tea. It is still there, hasn't changed a bit and I managed the sticky tea too!
