I was in this village with my girlfriend on the occasion of a day in Bamberg. The entrance to the courtyard is on Domplatz, in the upper part of the Bavarian city, next to the cathedral. Wooden porch balconies with flowers cantilevered from the railings create an atmosphere almost out of this world and time. The area is very picturesque and interesting to visit. The whole area is very popular especially with tourists who come to see all the points of interest of Bamberg.

This is the historic Old Court at Domplatz in the historic city centre of Bamberg. The Old Court was originally a palace made by the order of Emperor Henry II for the Bishop of Bamberg at the beginning of the 11th-century. The row of half-timbered buildings in the rear date back to 1475 while the Renaissance style Ratsstubenbau building and main entrance gate date back to around 1568.

This is where you find the City of Bamberg History Museum occupying much of the Alte Hofhaltung. Opening hours 10am to 5pm daily (closed on Mondays). If you don't have time to visit the museum, you can also pass through the entry gate, taking a look at the old half-timber buildings and other structures within inner courtyard before moving on to other intended sightseeing like Neue Residenz or Bamberg Cathedral.

The Old Court, enclosed by a complex of buildings used since their origins as a bishop's residence, is one of the most characteristic places in the historic center of Bamberg. The site is located in the same square where the Duomo and the Residenza Nuova are also located and is accessed through the ancient Porta Bella. This beautiful medieval courtyard, surrounded by typical half-timbered houses with their flowered balconies, represents one of the few corners of tranquility in this very touristy town. Recommended visit.

Alte Hofhaltung is a quaint, quiet courtyard off the main square. Used in several films it has been beautifully restored and makes for an impressive first impression. In the summer, the flowers off of the balconies are really amazing, but watch your steps because the paving stones can be very uneven. Definitely worth the visit.

The Alte Hofhaltung is amazing! We visited on a day when the museum was closed, but still managed to see a lot of the beautiful buildings in this area. It's really convenient for a visit to the Cathedral too. Make sure you take your camera as this area of Bamberg is so photogenic.

One of the lovely stops on our walking tour of Banberg. This lovely, beautifully renovated courtyard takes you back in time. It has been the backdrop for numerous films and it is easy to see why.
The flower baskets were superb even though it was towards the end of the season. Just one of the delights this historic city has to offer. There are toilets too but there is a charge!

This place is like stepping back in time. I believe that a few scenes from the movie, 'The Three Musketeers ', were filmed here in the courtyard. There is a small souvenir shop just inside and public toilets nearby. Ive visited a few times now but have never been inside, something I must do next year when I return.

We headed up the hill to go into the cathedral, and then spotted his lovely gem and had a good look around it. And it's definitely interesting and gives a great insight into times before ours. So worth a visit!

This is not only one of the older parts of the whole Cathedral area but also houses a very interesting and substantial museum with many different areas that are all well worth exploring.

The highlights for me where the first area of the relationship between Bamberg and the rivers surrounding it and the second most interesting part was the Jewish History of Bamberg - a very thoughtful exhibition indeed. I spent about 3 hours in here - so bring time....

Entry price is EUR8 for adults or EUR10 if you want to buy a combi ticket for all 3 museums up here (which I did).

The only reason why I do not give this a full Excellent is that I would have wished a bit more explanation about the the buildings themselves and the stage that was built right in the middle might be a good idea for a location but it kinda destroys the whole "look" .

The Old Court is a large cobbled courtyard right alongside the Cathedral and a former Fort. It’s origins are over 1000 years old, with many transformations since. It is nicely restored and part of it is dedicated to a City Museum. The WC here is payable!
