The Neue Residenz was a scale-down of the original residence however it was intentionally built to fulfill the need of the Bishop. Traveling through the medieval castles, palaces and residenz, we noticed small space was preferred to the oversized space. Many huge structures were being abandoned. In Bamberg, a complete new residence was built next to the original one showing... More

Located opposite the Bamberger Dom, the Neuer Residenz is a 2 wing building similar to other Schonborn palaces - beige sandstone, 3 levels, long rows of multi-windows evenly spaced with baroque decor above and under the windows, spacious but ugly cobblestone square all along the front of the building. What's different is that this residence has only 2 wings. The... More

Yes, the impressive architecture of the Neue Residenz can be compared to the best in Vienna. The Neue Residenz is a versatile attraction; besides receiving our admiration of the architecture, the State library of Bamberg is situated in the building, a tour of the building can be booked and a visit to the courtyard with the Rose Garden is almost... We were rushed for time and nearly passed it by and we're so glad we didn't. It's an amazing preservation of a emperors residence. Incredible plaster and paint work inside. Like everything in this town the roof was currently under construction and it had cracked some of the ceilings (a real crime imo). Still a solid MUST see this!! Swing... More

Not exactly inviting from the outside and there are only 8 rooms to be seen on the guided tour which is short. The highlights for me were the entrance hall (my photo) and room with 12 Canaletto paintings of scenes of Venice.

Touring inside this place is breath-taking. The artwork is stunning, the furniture and the rooms are awe-inspiring. Definitely worth a look.

While we were visiting with friends this place, we intended to see the big Dorm and this place was just an accident. When we finished visiting the cathedral, we had the Nue Residenz just laying there in front of us and just let me tell you: it was BREATHTAKING SIGHT!!! We couldn't visit and see everything 'coz it wasn't all... More

We saw only part of the inside of the "New" Residenz, actually quite an ancient building that stands close to the court of the Old Residenz. where they filmed The Three Musketeers. The symmetry (or lack of symmetry of the building is interesting as it could not be completed as planned. The gardens and the view of the ancient town... More

Plenty to see at the Neue Rezidenz, but several are not free. With limited time available, we decided to peek in, stroll around, but not take the tours.

They lived well in the 17th century. I read the Residence has over 40 state rooms featuring stucco-work ceilings, furniture and tapestries from the 17th and 18th centuries. Painted on the walls of the Imperial Hall are 16 larger than life-sized portraits of emperors, the work of Melchior Steidl. Actually, you can visit only a few rooms and its a... More
