The city hall was built on an island in the river. The towns folks wanted a new city hall but the Bishop didn't want to give them any land to build it on so they built an island in the middle of the river and built the city hall there. It is an interesting building with paintings on both sides along the river.

The Altes Rathous is really a historic wonder. Forgetting its age for a moment, the building itself is full of charming details and interesting focal points. Never mind that it's located in the center of the river, the house is a definite must see in Bamberg and someplace that you should spend 1/2 hour just soaking the details in.

Really picturesque town hall built right in the midst of the river. We found it fascinating that below the town hall, there were kayaking classes being held since the currents are very fast right there. The town hall building itself is painted with some 3D figures attached.

This building is probably one of the most iconic photo spots in Germany. It has an amazing half-timbered house in front and a two-story town hall with colorful frescoes on either side built on a tiny island in the middle of the Regnitz River. You can get a great photo from the Geyerswörthsteg bridge in front of the half-timbered building.

The Old Town Hall in Bamberg is certainly one of the most famous and beautiful landmarks in the city. It is located on the Upper Bridge and houses the "Ludwig Bamberg Collection" museum. From the Geyerwörthsteg bridge opposite, you have a great view of the historic building and its brightly painted facade.

The Old Town Hall stands in the center of the small river that runs through the town of Bamberg and has now become its symbol. It is a baroque building with rococo elements, richly decorated and completely frescoed. Built in several phases between the 14th and 18th centuries, it is characterized by the spectacular eighteenth-century frescoes that completely cover its facades. Visible from various points, the best view is from the lower bridge. An unmissable attraction for anyone visiting this Bavarian town.

The historic seat of the municipality on the river between two bridges is the absolute symbol of Bamberg. The frescoed palace on one side, the arch with the gray stone statues, the yellow half-timbered house on the other. A unique mix of architectural styles for a unique place in the world.

I walked past the building or I should say through it as I crossed the bridge without evening realiszing this was the old city hall. The building is very unique and beautiful from the outside. I also visited the inside where there are several porcelain collections on display. Just do it.

This iconic buildng is one of the most beautiful Town Hall I have ever seen. It’s located near the Obere Brücke, the Upper bridge over the Regnitz River. It’s a fairy-tale house with old colourful frescoes on either side. I think this amazing building and the half-timbered house is a must-see site! Don’t miss it!

No wonder this unique building features on so many of the posters for this lovely city. It has to be seen, and it's history explained by a local guide to be fully appreciated.
I wish my town hall looked like this.
