The Romanesque-style cathedral is located on the City on the Hills section of Old Town (Bergstadt). The cathedral is a treasure-trove of Medieval wonders, sculptures, altars, and it is constantly mobbed with tourists. A trip to the Dom would not be complete without locating and...More

Maybe I've seen one too many church/religious building on my travels, but I didn't find the Bamberg Cathedral particularly interesting. It's an impressive building and its four huge towers can be seen from most points in Bamberg. Inside is... well, it's a church, isn't it?...More

A cathedral with stunning architecture and beautiful decoration inside. Must sees are the woodcarvings (especially the altar triptych), and the wall and ceiling frescoes. More austere than most Catholic cathedrals, but that gives the whole church a more spiritual feeling.

This is a 'must see' in Bamberg. Similar to the Frauenkirche in Munich, but nice grounds and outbuildings. I am not a religious person, but I can certainly appreciate how difficult these buildings must have been to erect.

We visited the Cathedral as part of our guided walking tour of the city. It is a short (uphill if I remember) walk from the old town. This is another beautiful (Gothic/Romanesque) cathedral that is definitely worth the time to visit if you are in...More

Well worth the short climb up from the old town centre. So much to see inside the cathedral including very impressive organ pipes.

A gentle stroll up from the Altstadt (with a brief flight of steps to reach the Domplatz from Katzenberg being possibly the most attractive route) this magnificent cathedral dominates the city. The exterior is superb and the interior is every bit as good. Both the...More

Beautiful architecture and priceless history at their best and all for free. One thousand years speak for themselves. One of Bavarian musts.

This cathedral took over 600 years to finish, so the architecture is fascinating and eclectic. There is a pope (who only lived 6 months after being instated) buried in a large casket behind a chair in front of the alter, a statue of a horseman...More

Hi, We visited this year and I see from the plan that the Sacrament Chapel is marked number 13 and is on the left hand side entering from Adam's Portal just before The Chapel of the Nail. Hope this helps.
