    Beautiful visit
I had heard great things about Mainau and finally visited with my husband in late May. We visited on a beautiful day and enjoyed the butterfly house and walking around the island. It was quite spacious! We stopped for a beer at the first biergarten and had planned to grab something for dinner before leaving the island for the day. However, all the restaurants close between 5-6pm, so we missed our chance. We were a little surprised that the gift shops and restaurants closed well before the island closed up for the day. Oh well! Maybe I'll return again in the future.

Nice but way too EXPENSIVE for a park in Germany!
It’s a very nice and spacious garden park to visit on a beautiful day. Well maintained with many beautiful flower sculptures and plantations to see. Lots of playgrounds for kids so good for families to spend the day here. Big enough park to enjoy a leisurely stroll with many benches to sit on. There are lots of eateries and cafes too at different parts of the park. The only big downside is its price being way too expensive in my opinion. Euro25 per adult and another Euro6 per day for parking. It will be too much for repeat visit.

    Excellent place to visit
Excellent visit - spent most of the day looking at the various areas of the garden of which there are many - all well maintained (yet we didn’t see a single gardener!!) Fabulous setting on Lake Konstanz. Definitely worth a visit and close to the town of Konstanz (by bus, car etc)

Not to be missed while you are in Konstanz, Meersburg or along the shore of Bodensee
Not to be missed! This unique setting on an island owned by the Swedish royal family just off shore from Konstanz is a garden jewel. Even if you‘re not a huge botanical gardens fan, this experience may convert you. It’s a short trip on the ferry that you can easily extend to a several hours excursion to several towns along Bodensee. Full disclosure - I had my first Eiskaffee here many years ago, which was still the best ever. You can take a nice break from walking. Beautiful fountains too on the grounds. GO!!

Of course, this place has built a reputation as being ‘the attraction’ to visit when you’re in the area. Gardens are nicely done, but Mainau genuinely left us underwhelmed… maybe we’re just spoilt with Kew Gardens just down the road in London. Mainau was too busy for comfort (even at 10am midweek (during Easter) and over priced (at €26pp, €3 less for an online booking plus €6 for a parking spot)… this felt like a €18 kind of place. 75 mins and we were done.

Of course, you’ll come here. But be ready for too many people (it felt like Disney crowds) and to pay a lot for it.

Mainau : if you read this, what about offering a little discount if your visitors come by public transport or walk or cycle as we did. Many places do this now which is a great signal to send. Just a thought.

You can easily reach this island from by bus, ferry or car from Constanz.
The parking place is very huge, so you won't have problem with the parking.
The island is just wonderful and it is perfect for both children and adults.
It is plenty of playgrounds, but the most beautiful one is the water playground, that my kids have really loved.
The lake is crystal clear and it is also possible to swim in it.
The flowers and the sculpture made of flowers are wonderful.
I suggest to stay there at least six hours.

Heard many good things of Mainau before and felt the need to go. Honestly, loved the flowers - it was dahlia time in September and there were lots of different ones of them. Island Features a Castle which at least during our trip was not possible to visit and a huge variety of plants/ flowers. They even had a petting zoo which was closed due to COVID but you could still see the donkeys, ponies, goats etc. which was nice. All in all quite a nice experienced but for 22€ felt this was quite expensive... but I guess if you are in the area, it would be a shame to miss it.

We came by car, there is a large paid parking lot at the entrance, can't be missed. Tickets were not cheap. Tickets have a time slot to spread the crowd, still there was a line at the entrance. It was a sunny day but very hot. There are lots of places with shadow but also some paths full in the sun. We got a map at the entrance so that we didn't have to walk randomly through the park. The park consists of several gardens/ areas. Because of the heat and not all flowers bloom in the summer some gardens looked a little empty.
The animal farm is nice for the kids.
Everything is well maintained and cared with love.
Unfortunately it was way too crowded on same places in the park and only a few catering joints were open which lead to massive lines. Same for the butterfly garden. The line there was longer than in an amusement park. With COVID and all they shouldn't let so much people in.

Easily reached by bike from Konstanz, this small island is filled with lovely gardens and walks, as well as a couple of cafes and old buildings.

On the day we visited the weather was fantastic, but this did mean there were crowds and queues at most of the facilities. Away from the crowds, things were more peaceful and it was possible to enjoy the gardens.

Ok I admit I didn’t make my research in advance, but hiking around the lake I took a boat to the island and just wanted to go on. I hadn’t realized it wasn’t possible to do that without entering the domain and paying the outrageous 27 euros fee!! Quite expensive for walking 500 meters….
Otherwise, assuming you entered there voluntarily … what could you get for that money? Well: at least 2 splendid 150 years old sequoias, a castle with work in progress, many gardens full of unattractive hortensias,… and of course many more opportunities to spend even more money in various shops and restaurants.
If you’re a fan of tourist traps, you should put this place high on your list, you won’t be disappointed!!

This island is incredible amazing. We got a 20min ferry from Meersburg and enjoyed a good 5hours roaming around the island by foot. No cars and no bicycles. We had a 3 and 6 year old with us and they never got bored especially in the petting farm. I would recommend the visit especially in spring because of all the wonderful colours of the flowers.

Take the bus 4/13 or 13/4 from Konstanz Bahnhof or another bus stop on its way (every 20 minutes, and the journey takes 16 min). The place is best to visit in Spring and Summer. I visited in late August and everything was very beautiful and scenic. Cars are not allowed inside the island. The walk from the parking to the inside of Mainau is also nice. Amazing views everywhere you go.

Too expensive. After trying to get parked for 30 minutes, we were surprised by the 25 Euro entrance fee for adults. We decided to go anyway after all the trouble of getting there. Mistake. it was a Disneyland like queue. Very popular with families as children are free. It felt overrun and nearly like a children's playground. And not the quiet nature experience we were expecting. Would not go again if it were free . Would not recommend for adults.

Extremely overpriced place 26 euro with a 6 euro parking on a top of it!
Nothing special or memorable there!
Kew Gardens or even any other park could do it better. Just a small island overpacked with cafes and restaurants and ridiculous kids entertainments. A cash factory for stupid tourists including myself.
10 euro per person entrance could be OK, but 58 euro for me and my wife visit and parking- a robbery!
Immediately after our visit ( 2 hours in total and spent 1 hour of it visiting toilets and cafes) we went back to Rhine falls for a second time and stayed for 4 hours to enjoy the nature masterpiece and YES, it was for free and parking was free!
Never again to Mainau madness!
Avoid at any cost!
