Great activities for kids, with opportunities to learn - such as 19th century school, steam train, and different crafts.
The staff (incl. loads of local volunteers) was very friendly and eager to explain the context of what they were doing

Have been several times since the first visit in 1964. Each time there has been a change in the communication, which is brought up to date with the latest technology. Absolutely good and informative presentation. The area is beautiful. The buildings have been rebuilt with consideration for the whole.

Absolutely fascinating and beautiful outdoor museum with houses from 1600s to 1930s. From the buildings to the gardens and horses, this makes for an absolutely lovely afternoon for all ages. Really can't recommend it highly enough.

Looks a little worn. Lack of communication of what you see. Surely fine as a family outing on a summer day. But not in March.
Lack of service in the restaurant. We had booked a table but there was no one to welcome us. Went again and bought toast from the grocery store in Sevel. Sevel Kro looked nice, but was fully booked.

We have had a season pass for the last few years, so we usually come some times every year.
The environment is beautiful and the old houses match perfectly and give the feeling of going back in time.
If you come during the time when the museum comes alive with reenactors, there's a lot to look at and experience, but even outside these times, it is a very nice place to just go for a walk (It's a couple or three kilometers around the whole premises).
There's also a nice playground for the children and a good restaurant.

Hjerl Hede Open Air Museum is an excellent way to see and experience the farm and village buildings and activities in them. Often there are live activities in many of the places. It is a spacious place where you will walk from house to house and go inside and look at what happened, and you will feel that you are 'back home'. You can also enjoy the nature.
Food is available and you can bring you own.
You need to have a car to reach the place. It is located between Holstebro and Skive.

We went there with or almost one year old baby as we were very interested in the history and were sure there will be something interesting for him as well.
By the time for his lunch we arrive at the restaurant in the park. The lady there was so unfriendly how we never experienced it in our live. We asked if t is possible to warm up our baby’s food (a Glas menu) which was never ever a problem in no country or place we went so far. Of course did we also want to eat there but after I raised the question she made an unfriendly comment, left the bar and never got back. Not even when other customers arrived to buy an ice cream, which started melting after a while.
Another lady called her back and she tried to ignore me but I asked very loud and clear again if she could please warm up the menu for our baby. She looked at me as if she wished me I do t know what, took the menu, went to the kitchen, got back for others customers and kept ignoring us.
My husband had to ask another guy from the kitchen if we could get the food back, and he luckily helped us. The two of us never got the chance to order anything for ourselves. So we stayed hungry and thirsty. Unbelievable.
Apart from that negative story about the worse restaurant service ever, the train on the most far point was not there and all other attractions seems to be in a kind of a Sleeping beauty mode. Very sad spending half a day there to learn something about a country - learning THAT.

We went there in the summer time , and found the workshops working, and the museum was interesting and well presented.
It is a good place for kids, but also tecnic nerds has a lot of old stuff to dig into..
The whole family find something off interrest.
Check if the workshops are manned first, and best in the summertime.

Good site. Not too much for the children, but adults should like the history and architecture of the old buildings from around Denmark

During the Danish summer holidays Hjerl Hede offers its visitors a taste of what life was at different times in history. Try the steam train, taste the traditional Danish "rygbrød" (rye bread) and attend lessons at the village's school. Well worth the visit.

Would it be possible to get from Copenhagen to Hjerl Hede and back in one day (16 September). We will not be driving. Would we have to hire a car and driver?
Written April 12, 2018
Hello.. Yes it is possible. But you have to rent a car because it will take to long time with train and busses. And the last 3 km is there no transport. The museum is open from 10am until 4pm.
Hope you Will enjoy.
Yours faithfully
Ulla
