The valley is beautiful .... but was very crowded ... with bathing / relaxing people in / along the river (and path). That ruined the nature ecperience a bit. We were there on a sunny sunday in august so that could be an explanation for the mant people.
At the end of the afternoon when the sun disappeared in the valley a lot of people were gone.
The hike through the valley is easy (until refugio Rasica). I climbed a part up the mountain through the woods but that was pointless because there was not much to see. Maybe far up the mountain there are points of interest but that would be a long and steep walk.
We parked the car on the outskirts of the village San Martino. It was payed (1 euro an hour). There are a few free parking places but these were occupied.
The road to the (small) parking at the start of the trail was closed. We needed to walk for about 2 kilometers to the start.

This is one of the most beautiful mountain valleys I have ever been to. Good for walking, climbing or simply relaxing. It was simply stunning -wild flower meadows and forests, ringed by snow capped mountains and a river flowing through. Perfect alpine scenery.

One the most beautiful hikes I've done in Italy and in my life.
We hiked up to Rifugio Casera Pioda and had a wonderful glass of wine with the volunteers of Mountain Wilderness.
The path follows clear turquoise water of the river, a few beautiful waterfalls, green meadows and cows and climbs through the forest to a stunning view point and the peaceful rifuigo.
Parking was in the center of San Martino, from there we took the shuttle to Val di Mello for 2 EU pp.
After the hike we had a delicious dinner at Fiorelli Pizzaria in San Martino. Highly recommended!

We went on a beautiful sunny day.
You can walk up to 7 hours or smaller walks.
Very easy hiking but do wear proper hiking shoes.
As there is uneven ground, cobbles, & quite loose footings on the bridges.
We parked at san martino a small village where there is plenty of long or short spaces on offer.
From here you start the hike all well sign posted.
We had lunch at the rifugio luna nascente, i recommend this one from experience.
Or take your own picnic therecare plenty of places to stop.
I would allow at least 3 to 4 hours to do the medium hike.

I was there in the end of March. There was still snow and it was still cold. But the beauty of the place remains. I went exploring alone, through the snowy grounds. It was just perfect. If I had died while hiking, I would have died happy and satisfied with my life. Make sure you bring proper shoes depending on weather.

Beautiful view, fresh air, various grades of efforts, leaving the car at the parking lot we took the trail up and had several opportunities to return and enjoy lunch in the village.

Staying by Lake Como at Gera Lario which is an hour away from this beautiful national park. Once past Morbegno we made the climb up to San Marino and had a walk round once we found free parking a little out of town. Main car park as you enter the village needs a ticket.
Decided to get the little shuttle bus up to the Valley car park for a cost of €4 each return. The minibus runs every 20 mins or so backwards and forwards all day.
Once at the drop off spot by the river we made the walk further up the Valley. Only gentle inclines, footpaths are good and there are a number of small bars/restaurants that serve camp sites one the way up. We found a spot by natural river pools to relax and eat a picnic. Glorious weather with the sound of the river which water is crystal clear. There were brave people taking a dip in the cold, fresh mountain water. We spent several hours before heading back down. The backdrop boulders and mountains are breathtakingly beautiful and the description “mini Yosemite’ is very accurate
