Excellent tour with value earned back in tasting
Dec 2020 • Couples
Excellent tour of about an hour. You are explained about the distilling and maturation process, shown a short movie about the impact, with lots of tasting throughout. Ronaldo (I think) was our guide, happily switching between English and Spanish. Only $5 for a tour - a great deal given the amount of tastings you’ll get.

Great tour. Bilingual English / Spanish. The tour has a introductory video to explain the process nd includes a tram ride to see various steps in the process. The tour starts addends with tasting.

Us muppets paid to be advertised too?

Oh dear. I have been to whiskey/Rum/Gin distilleries around the world....

As our American friends said ‘that sucks for 15 bucks’. I said I wish it did as it wouldn’t be such a ripoff.

1) Watch an 10/12 minute advert on Flores de Cana in a rather warm room.
2) Walk around a warehouse of barrels on racks.
3) Enter gift shop where the drink is more expensive than in a super express?

You do get a wee dram of 7 and 18yr old Flor De Cana though.

Spend the money on buying a bottle of the 18yr old share it with friends and put a picture of barrels in the background.

Ensure you regularly top up your drinks and say “Flor De Cana is the best rum in the world”......

Shots, Shots, shots! Great Tour Guide!

While in port for one day with HAL we booked a private tour for the day. One of our stops was for the tour of Flor de Cana. Back home I have diffently sampled my fair share of the product but no one else in our group had. Our tour guides managed to get us a private tour for the 4 of us. The property is well maintanied. There is a big old train at the beginning before you get on the tralley that takes you around.

I wish I remembered our guides name. I want to say Ronaldo but i am not 100% sure. He did a fabulous job explaining all the procedures of making the flor de cana rum. He was very knowledgeable and could answer any question thrown his way. He was also very funny and it made for a fun afternoon. He showed us/ let us smell a glass that had sugarcane turned into molasses. You do not get to see any of the stills but there is lots of other things you get to see. Barrels getting put together. There is also a movie about the family, the rum business and what flor de cana does for the people of Nicaragua.

They have a lovely room where we got to sample one or two of the rums and where told/shown the right way to sample rum. Then moved on to the muesum & gift shop. There was some bottles that you couldnt get in Canada. As well as a few more samples. There coffee flavour rum was to die for on ice. For the ones we could get back home I was a little surprised the prices were pretty much the same.

If you pay the $100usd per person for the VIP tour you get a sample of the 31 year reserve. We did not do that. we did the $10usd per person tour.

We really enjoy taking these types of tours and this was one of the bests!

Definitely not worth it 10 dollars!

Paid 10 dollars for what??? I expected to see all the process from the sugar cane to the final product..what I saw? A 10 min movie, a warehouse filled with barrels and 2 shots of rum( one 18years old the other one 7). I've done much better tours regarding the procedure to make rum!!

One of the highlights of my time in Nicaragua!
Mar 2019 • Friends
I was surprised by some of the negative reviews because my friend and I had an awesome time with this tour! Ronaldo is super knowledgeable and obviously very passionate about what he does. The whole tour was very thorough, you learn everything about the rum production from start to finish, as well as the history of Flor de Cana and not to mention some delicious rum tastings along the way!

The tour takes about an hour and a half and only costs a modest $10 for foreigners. Even if you don’t like rum, just learning about the production and history and how it is stored is a unique experience. I’ve been on many factory tours in my travels and this one is definitely in the top three. I highly recommend!

Thanks Ronaldo for the great experience!

Seriously ?
Mar 2019 • Couples
I cannot recommend this tour to anyone ... The "showman" guide will take you on a little train to various places, none of them being part of the process on making rhum. You will see the place where they repair barils, you will be taken to a small cinema where you see a 20 minutes movie self proclaiming they are the best rhum in the world (there are not) and then to the shop !!!
Seriously, 10 dollars for that !
I visited 2 distilleries in the Carribeans islands where they show you everything, the sugar cane, the melasse, the olding, and that was free.

If you like Rum, you'll love this tour

The Flor de Cana Tour is worth the trip if you are in Nicaragua. Very informative and interesting with a little history thrown in. The tour includes a tasting of the 7 and 18 year old Rum and end at the giant barrel where you can buy rum or Flor de Cana souvenirs.

It was very interesting VIP tour. Ronaldo was our tour guide and explain everything on detail. He is very knowledgeable. The tasting was perfect and almost at the end of the tour we could try a 31 year rum, delicious.
Being a rum lover you can not miss it. :)
