Espace Killy (Val D'Isere and Tignes) offers IMO the most comprehensive and varied skiing in Europe for intermediate and experienced skiers. You will not get bored for a full week of variety both on and off piste. Lift systems are very good, with few queues after the 9.30am rush.
BUT this is a relatively tough area for beginners and the piste gradings are frankly very misleading. Many blues would be graded red anywhere else, and similarly many reds are more like blacks. Looking at the piste map it looks like a good family area for all abilities. This is not true and beginners who wish to venture beyond the nursery slopes should look elsewhere.

Excellent expansive ski area incorporating Val d'isere and Tignes. So many runs for all levels of skiers and boarders. Brilliant starter areas offering free lifts with progressive difficulty. Uplift infrastructure is well planned with quality lift/gondolas and funiculars allowing ease of exploration. Well sculpted border cross and freestyle parks. Pistes are well groomed and there is expansive off pisting for the more adventurous.Glacial skiing is available at 11,300ft. Local resorts offer good services and the usual array of shops. A free bus service runs between areas. Costs are commensurate with a ski resort of this complexity but good value for money if the weather is kind.

Had a weeks skiing here at the end of January (actually only 4 days due to Blizzards). The skiing in Tignes was excellent, but once you get over the crossovers to Val D'Isere the grading of the runs was, quite frankly a joke. We tried the red run Santon's down to Val D'Isere. Apparantley this used to be a blue!!
The run is basically an icy gully, half piped and moguls. I class myself as a very good skier and this was not fun - it should have been a hard black.
That being said there are some lovely runs down to La Daille, and the runs to the bottom of Tignes are amazing

Have been to other places but return to this place as it simply is the best and there are never lack of snow. Most of the lifts have been updated. The area is very large and you can do day trips without using the slopes twice. The area contains numerous restaurants both self-service and more exclusive ones.

It’s big, the lift system
Is pretty good, the selection of runs is great. Lots of restaurants and bars for all tastes and budgets. Yes the lift ticket is not cheap but you get what you pay for. Snow is guaranteed. My favourite ski resort which I guess also makes it my favourite place.

I have visited Val d'isere three times and will visit again in January/February 2017. I stayed in Val d'isere but purchased a ski pass that covered the whole of the L'Espace Killy area (mainly Val & Tignes).
The ski area is huge and offers a wide variety of all kinds of slopes, from beginner slopes to expert slopes. Each time I have been there I have been very lucky with both the weather and the snow conditions, even though it might get very cold late in January.
There is also very good opportunities for offpiste skiing, often just steps out the slopes.
There are quite a good number of decent restaurants in the mountains as well, I will recommend L'Edelweis for food and Le Foulie Douche for afterski fun.
All in all my favorite ski destination, very much recommended.
