Beautiful mosque with some of the most beautiful tile work I've seen. Take the time to walk around and take in all the nooks and crannies -- some of the most beautiful tile work is in little alcoves.

It is located in Thatta, Sindh province, Pakistan. The mosque was built in 1647, during the reign of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, as a gift to the people of Sindh for their hospitality. It has been on the tentative UNESCO World Heritage list since 1993. The mosque is built with red bricks with blue colored glaze tiles probably imported from the town of Haala, Sindh. It has 93 domes. I visited their with my friends.

Very beautiful mosque. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to enter the mosque as it opens at 12:30 but we did see the outside of the mosque.

The mosque was built by Emperor ShahJahan as a gift to the people of Thatta for sheltering him from the wrath of the emperor.

Thatta is a busy city where there had been some unrest of late and the police had ordered the mosque to be open only at prayer time. I walked through the garden up to the entrance. The exterior tiles and brickworks were amazing and in fairly good shape. How I wished I had a peak inside. Shah Jahan Masjid had been on my priority list, but a visit was not to be. Maybe another time...

Been there twice and every time found it even more appealing and unveiling new treasures to me.
Built in 1647, during the reign of Mughal King Shah Jahan, as a gift to the people of Sindh for their hospitality. It is built with red bricks with blue colored glaze tiles probably imported from the town of Haala, Sindh. It has a total of 93 domes.
It was built keeping acoustics in mind. A person speaking on one end of the dome can be heard from the other end when the speech exceeds 100 decibels.
It is considered 1 of the world's 40 most beautiful mosques.
An intro stone in the Mosque reads that 20,000 people can pray at one time in the mosque.
It has been on the tentative UNESCO World Heritage list since 1993
