We planned to discover the Camargue by foor or bike, however, due to circumstances we were not able to do so. Therefore we went with a nice, good english speaking, guide on a trip through the parc for 2 hours. We expected to see some special nature and to see horses, bulls and flamingos in the wild. The nature was not that interesting to look at from the car. The horses and bulls were behind a fence, and didn't look to have much energy. To see flamingos flying and eating in nature was great. The guide share some intesting details about the nature and the history of the Camargue. That was the only benefit from this tour. The other things we observed from the jeep, we already had seen from the bus. Which was not surprisingly since the jeep drove mainly on normal roads. So if you're able to go by bike or foot, please do so!

Our day in the Camargue with Safari Le Gitan was a definite highlight of our trip, largely due to our guide -- I believe his name was Joris. I thought we had booked an English tour, but it turned out it was in French. I have enough French that I was able to get most of the information, despite the speed of our guide's speech and the Provençal accent. Joris was absolutely passionate about the Camargue and explained the various aspects of it in detail. We couldn't stump him with any of our questions. And he had a great sense of humour. Unfortunately he doesn't do the English tours, but if his English-speaking colleagues have similar levels of knowledge and enthusiasm, you will have a great day.

A 2 hour trip by Landrover over the barren wet lands of the Camague. Our driver/guide was Ted who spoke prefect English. The tour included views of the famous White horses, pink flamingos and wild bulls of the land. We also saw the cowboys who look after these bulls. Ted also described how the harsh land influences the wild life and how the locals cope with this environment. Lack of wood for building dictates that the original shelters were constructed of stone and reeds. Ted was also helpful in guiding us to decent restaurants.

With a pick-up at the back of the Arles Tourist Office, our party of six was allocated an open-topped Jeep with an excellent english speaking guide - Lauren. With an excellent knowledge of the Camargue and the bird life she made the trip even more enjoyable. We saw flamingos, bee-eaters, black-winged stilts and a stork as well as the "usual" horses and bulls. The great weather made this a day to remember and the trip is a "must" for anyone wanting an idea of what the Camargue is like.

Cram 8 people in a land rover. Only the front three passengers can hear any information. The guide was suppose to talk English. He would give a long explanation in French and a brief sentence in English and had difficulty understanding my questions. Go to Le Parc Ornithonlogique instead.
