Horrendous in the summer months. Avoid it. It took us 40 minutes to park the car, which we eventually dumped on a main road and walked 1 mile into town.
We found a lovely restaurant (Chez Poulette) but the town itself was hideous as a result of the number of people.

Fantastic experience. Extremely cute and picturesque. Food is a little touristy. Shopping is cute. Walking around and getting lost in the streets is cute. We really liked going here and found it very relaxing and spent some time on the local beach was really great. Overall very calming beautiful place.

Beyond taking the wonderful boat tour or doing a hike to a nearby calanque or two, here are our ideas of ways to enjoy Cassis:
• Walk to Plage du Bestouan (seven minutes west of the harbour) and take the stairs at the north end to a rocky area where you can sit and watch the entrance to the harbour. It was lovely at sunset (see photo). This rocky area is across from the lighthouse.
• Watch people playing pétanque in the evening in the square at the east end of the harbour.
• Have morning coffee at a café on the harbour. We really enjoyed watching the fishermen selling their catch just 3 meters in front of us.
• Get an ice-cream and sit by the small pebble beach or go for a swim.
• Enjoy a restaurant meal. The better restaurants tend to be tucked in the little streets just beyond the harbour. Our best meal was at D’une rive à l’autre, which specializes in Middle Eastern cuisine.

This is a very scenic little harbour that is lined with restaurants. Prices are sort of competitively high but portions and quality are excellent. Working fish boats, tour boats and high end pleasure boats are fun to watch going in and out of the harbour. Scenic back ground with high cliffs.

This feels like a real harbor! Plenty of nice cafes line the promenade, offering up great people-watching. Though it’s a very busy place, at the same time, it’s also charming and authentic. At one end there’s even an old-time carousel. With the cliffs as a backdrop, you have one gorgeous setting. Walk around the innermost point of the harbor and head out along the jetty. You’ll find access to the sandy beach and once you reach the end of the walk, look back toward the Cap Canaille for one of France’s most spectacular coastal views. Magnificent?

Beautiful evening in Cassis-Port. Illuminations, a little east wind... Romantic... Be careful of hunting Tourists for dinner. We, without fault with "La Vieille Auberge"... Bourgeois, polite, white tablecloths, DELICIOUS,...and a recommended Rosé de Cassis...welcome.
PERFECT dinner, sole as it should be, sardines just like at home, candied apple caramel raspberry vanilla dessert... And HOP, dreaming of the real days before!!! STOP the Pizzeria!, okay, that's the price of Quality-Smile: 150 euros for a radiant dinner.

The port is the worthy crowning achievement of this splendid location, set between spectacular cliffs.
Although widely touristed, the port still retains much of its charm unchanged and invites, why not, to enjoy a coffee in one of the numerous cafés. Watch out for restaurant prices....

Beautiful town. We stayed here for 5 days and loved it. Plenty of restaurants and cafes. Lovely little streets and shops. Little market on a Wednesday selling food, flowers, soaps and clothes. The architecture is stunning and you can’t help but fall in love with Cassis. It’s perfect.

What can I say, a port in the south of France. Lots of boats, nice walk around and lots of overpriced food and souvenirs. I found that there was a lack of places to just sit and have a coffee or something. Lots of restaurants and I’m sure they are fine, but they are mostly selling the same thing just in a different environment.
The best food we found was outside of the port area. It’s nice for a day out, quite pleasant, but quickly done.

We had been to Cassis about 15 years ago and have be dying to get back ever since. As part of our three week tour of the south of France, we decided to spend a morning back here and catch up....and everything was just as wonderful as I remembered it.
The port is busy, fun, charming, active and exciting. It's fun just walking about, looking that the boats, watching them come in and go out of the harbor. The sun is strong, so make sure to bring a hat as there is not a great deal of shade. There are a ton of quaint shops along the side streets and plenty of restaurants along the harbor itself.
Definitely a great time and a place I would want to go back to...and probably would want to spend a couple of days next time!!

Can you help with which bus to take from Marseille to Cassis? Or is it easy enough to get a taxi? I don't know the area at all so am a bit nervous, travelling with kids and suitcases!! Thanks so much

I do not know of a bus connection. I took the train from St. Charles main station. It was inexpensive and It was only c. 3 stops and very easy. The Port is a bit far from the train station in Cassis but there is a little commuter bus that waits for folks getting off the train and takes them right to Cassis near the casino! We had a wonderful time- a short easy trip from Marseilles with the train but really a world apart!
