If you locate the Musse for Niort you will find this old building nestled neat to it. Quirky, on my opinion, but that is a good thing. It is a lovely old building that is functional still today.

It was closed on our arrival but does not detract from the presence it has.

Loads of varied stalls inside and out. Fish, meat, fruit and veg, cheese, charcuterie and cafes. well worth a visit, set in an interesting and historical town.

really anywhere you go that look for tourists you expect to be welcome, not here you go they see you coming they raise there prices for tourist tax. the place was run down unwelcoming and unnerving with what felt like people watching where you were going. not fun not nice not worth even thinking about going to. how this is a tourist attraction I will never no. leave this well alone!!!!!!!

As the building is so large I thought that we would find loads of local food laid out, inviting us to buy.

Not the case it was that empty of people and so many stalls closed, that I thought it was closed.

Okay it was a Tuesday, in August but it was also lunch time, and I expected to pick up something to eat, didn't get anything.

Excellent hall of food stalls. Everything is beautifully laid out. Best to go in with a full stomach or you will buy more than you need. Worth visiting even if you just want to look.

went around the market and bought a few things. only later worked out that we had been given a special rate of twice the marked price for tomato.
nice chap on the the left hand side opposite the butchers.
the rest of the market was ok but pricey

Excellent indoor market with all the stalls you need year round. But best visited on a Saturday and high season for best attendance and variety.

Open every morning, this covered market has a range of wonderful stalls with so much choice of fresh vegetables, fruit, honey, fish, meat, bread and cheese - you just have to keep comig back and avoid the supermarkets!

This rates as one of the finest indoor markets we have visited over many years visiting France. It is filled with stalls selling local produce, meats, fish, garden produce etc. All are top quality, it's just a shame we were staying in a hotel on this trip and not self catering or we would have called in daily. The main 'market day' is on Saturday when extra farmers produce is available.
