Beautiful area

Worth a stroll around to see the cathedral, museum, and quaint neighborhoods. The museum was free. Unfortunately I couldn't find a way into the cathedral. Not sure if it is open or not but was running short on time.

Interesting exhibitions
Mar 2017 • Couples
There are many exhibitions in the gallery some contemporary examples of needlework. There is an excellent section showing how Beauvais has developed over time - especially with regard to its rebuilding after being bombed during the war.

Wrongly named - no tapestry here
Jan 2017 • Couples
There is an exhibition about industrial and population change in Beauvais, along with different construction methods over the centuries. Very interesting - great photos. All the tapestries have been moved - mainly to the Town Hall (Hotel de Ville) - which are free to visit.

Small Museum
Aug 2016 • Family
Small museum with lots of local history. Pottery, tapestry and other artwork. I believe it was free, so a nice way to spend some time after the Cathedral.

Another excellent free attraction at lovely Beauvais.

Another excellent free attraction at lovely Beauvais.
The exhibitions here may change but I can imagine there will always be something of interest here.
You can also see some ancient foundations under the building that they have uncovered and made viewable for visitors.
There are two floors of spacious galleries to look through and there was plenty of information in English if the art isn't speaking for itself.

A well-endowed museum of tapestries built upon ancient foundations
Jun 2015 • Solo
Beauvais was a centre of tapestry-making for centuries, and it is no surprise that this museum serves a dual purpose: it introduces the visitor to the history of this ancient art in a small gallery (due to be expanded soon) and it hosts temporary exhibitions. The current one is on sacred and profane love as themes in tapestries (and in art in general). Quite a huge topic, which is thrown into relief by means of comparisons and contrasts.
As you walk through the rather cavernous galleries, your eye is primarily directed towards the ancient tapestries, but then, teasingly, smaller modern artworks are spotted on the walls and elsewhere, acting as a kind of counterpoint to the main exhibits. Many of them are quite lurid and sexually explicit: much of this is not suitable for the delicate minds of young children or maiden aunts from Tunbridge Wells. But this is France.
The galleries are on two levels, and in the basement you will see the foundations of Roman and Medieval buildings, so there is another reason for visiting this site.
The museum does not levy an admission charge, nor is there the type of souvenir shop or café that one would most probably find in similar locations on the other side of the Channel.

Nice for a different view

It rained. This was a museum with free admittance, why not. Some nice surprises and a broader idea afterwards!

Current Exhibition about the history of Beauvais
Apr 2014 • Couples
There is currently a free exhibition detailing the history of Beauvais - industrial, religious, architectural and economic. Huge benefit is that the interpretation is in both French and English.
We learned a lot about Beauvais and its' history.
Staff bilingual too!!
