Interesting
Jul 2020
An interesting building, in that it collapsed several times, was never finished and has one end just apparently cut off. In a pretty square, with cafes and restaurants dotted around and right next to the old castle, which is worth a visit and has a small (free!) art gallery. Also worth searching out nearby the streets with the old mediaeval houses.

Magnificent cathedral , to be done at least half day , and would recommend to go there during European Heriatge Days , when most of the doors are open to discover whole building , as well "secret" corner

The Parthenon of french gothic
Jun 2019 • Friends
Beauvais Cathedral marks the end of the, up till then, endless effort of the gothic era trying to reach higher and higher. Numerous collapses of the structure - eventually the 500 feet (150 m) tower, finally brought architecture of the time to scale down the churches height (and general span).
The "left-over" is however magnificent, with the huge choir still standing as the main church building, even today supported by interior scaffolding to keep it up...
48 m from floor to ceiling and with glass all the way up (including the triforium), light and space is simply stunning.
Oldest stained glass is from the 13th and 14th century - magnificent.
The astronomical clock is fascinating, albeit not in any way medieval, being from the middle of the 19th century.

The old church is still standing where the nave of the planned cathedral would have been. And behind it there's a beautiful garden and the MUDO - Oise museum.

The cathedral is a must if you are in the Beauvais area!

Very beautiful

The cathedral is a gorgeous example of beautiful gothic architecture...the stain glass alone makes the cathedral worth a visit. Make sure to do a lap around the outside of the cathedral as well, there’s some really neat old timey buildings and homes around the backside! It looks like the cathedral is undergoing some renovations on the inside and along the outside a bit as well, so just a heads up on that. But definitely recommend.

Cathedrale Saint-Pierre

It was suggested to me by a friend who as a Jeanne d'Arc aficionado went to Beauvais for he sole purpose of seeing the cathedral since Pierre Cauchon, the then-bishop of Beauvais presided over the trial of the Maid of Orleans (there's a modern time bar-relief group inside where today's bishop is asking Jeanne for forgiveness of bishop Cauchon). So the exterior looks nice, recently cleaned and renovated, and the interior undergoes some kind of repairs, with scaffolding and heavy construction beams throughout the nave. But what was absolutely gross was the mess and neglect probably caused by the ongoing work -- thick layer of dust, trash, and birds droppings everywhere. And this is a working church! Disgusting. That was the last station of our tour of French cathedrals and it happened to be such disappointment. Shame.

The interior of this cathedral is breathtaking. We were there for the candlelight service on Holy Saturday which added to the mystery and solemnity of the place.

OMG
Dec 2018 • Couples
We did a driving tour around Paris, to visit cathedrals. Beauvais was to be the tallest, grandest, most impressive cathedral of them all. Except, parts of it fell down before it was finished. what was left is still grand, and all the more impressive for the internal bracing installed to keep it up. As a bonus, the astronomical clocks are a wonder to behold.

When you step inside Beauvais Cathedral you can't help but have your sight drawn upwards and upwards and upwards. Soaring windows reach up to the heavens. It is just beautiful. The Cathedral is the tallest in France, although not the biggest. Throughout the Cathedral are lovely original and contemporary stained glass windows. The standout feature though is the 19C astronomical clock. The video about it is a bit silly but the clock itself is delightful, so definitely worth the 5 euro.

A big surprise
Sep 2018 • Couples
If you are unprepared for what you will see, Beauvais Cathedral comes as a shock. It comprises a choir of enormous proportions but no nave – as a result of overambitious plans and subsequent building collapses which, together with the cost, put off any idea of completing the structure. But the choir itself is spectacular and well worth a visit. There is also a huge nineteenth century astronomical clock (for which you pay to watch it light up). There is free parking in clearly marked aresa within a couple of minutes walk, and some cheap eating places within a stone’s throw of the cathedral.
