We enjoyed a pleasant walk in parkland and along the river banks where produce was traditionally grown and sold. The motorized punts are now used to transport tourist but we didn't use them. The area is very peaceful and colourful, clearly used by the locals,...More

Do not (!) board unless you're 5 feet tall or smaller. This is a terrible tourist trap where they try to load as many people on one boat as possible.

An electric barge takes you through a ma ze of waterways constructed to turn a swampy area into useful agricultural land. It is now mainly used by people wanting to get some peace and quiet. It's a very unusual environment and fascinating place to visit.

We stayed in a house nearby and our host kindly lent us his flat bottomed boat to explore the micro canals, lakes, and market gardens. So beautiful and individual, I'd love to return.

Les Hortillonnages d'Amiens was one of the main choices for our visit and we were not disappointed. First of all we wandered round some of the paths and then onto Camon which allowed us to walk in a circuit. We then enjoyed the boat trip...More

A trip around the Hortillonnages is a pleasant change for the inner city bustle. A very gentle but interesting trip, the commentary was only in French but even with school boy French you can pick up plenty of interesting information.

So this is a slow boat ride among canals in Amiens. There are many flowers and ducks to be seen. There may have been narration but my French was not up to getting it. Also, it’s really hard to find the dock. If you’re in...More

It is a slow peaceful place and the boat ride was relaxing, but to the extent that it was a bit boring. There were some sculptures but it would be difficult to call it art. You could see some of the gardens were well looked...More

You can get a boat from Boulevard Beauvillé - it’s marked on local maps. From memory it was about €8 each. The trip itself takes about 30 mins but you may have to wait for a while at busy times.

Les Hortillonnages - where and when (4 Replies)
Hi, I have been reading up on Amiens and things to do/see in the town. I came across the Les Hortillonnages on both the Visit Somme and Visit Amiens sites - but I can't seem to find the info on where to get the boats, when they run and how much. It's probably very obvious but was wondering if someone on the forum knows this information. We will be in the area over Easter next year, mainly for the Anzac Day dawn service at VB, but also wanted to see more of the area and this sounded...More

Wow thanks EW, I will have a look at the links after work. As it happens, we are now staying in Amiens itself, rather than Albert, so it would be wonderful if we were there for the 2pm guided boat tour. Thanks again for your wonderful assistance :)
