    Lovely morning boat ride
We had read about this as something nice to do in Amiens. We followed the tourist signs in the city centre and walked down to the place near the river where you can get on the boats. We were there approx 9am didn’t have to wait long cost 25 euro for family of 4. Guide spoke a little English and tried to explain some things and was very helpful to us. Commentary was only in French obviously but I think if you had a recorded version it wouldn’t work so we were happy just to look and enjoy. Approx 45 mini tour of these little canals with market gardens and summer houses absolutely beautiful can’t think of anywhere else that I’ve seen or heard has anything similar. Well worth a visit and the children enjoyed it as well.

    School trip!
A really pleasant bob down the little winding rivers and canals of Amiens. Our guide was lovely and really knowledgeable though didn’t speak much English so it gave us all an excellent opportunity to practise our French. He was fab at pointing out some of the madder allotment displays which the kids loved. A great trip for a sunny day!

    Relaxing and scenic boat trip
Les Hortillonnages is a series of waterways through a large expanse of market gardens. You can take a 45 minute boat trip on small boats that are like gondolas that weave their way through the gardens. It is not possible to book tickets in advance and, in the summer, there can be long queues, particularly if you arrive after a coach trip. The staff wipe the boats down with disinfectant between trips but there is no concept of social distancing with 12 people squashed into each boat. The trip is scenic and relaxing although we did not have any commentary - the boatman was chatting to the people at the back of the boat in French but made no effort to speak to the rest of the people on board in French or any other language.

I guess I’m a hater because without the possibility of renting a canal boat, which was unavailable due to Covid, it’s just a park. A poorly laid out park as well unless you like industrial landscapes. C’est la vie. Granted it was nice scenery on the whole, but nothing unique really. The international garden festival runs almost half the year but the art is painfully pretentious. If you can do a boat ride I’m sure it would be lovely but my experience sans bateau was too tedious.

We had a lovely time drifting through the gardens on a flat-bottomed boat. The commentary is (understandably) in French, but our lack of language skills didn't impact on our enjoyment of the experience. It cost 8 euro per person - which was a reasonable price to pay for a relaxing hour on the water.

This park provides a pleasant walk and gentle boat rides in Amiens.
When we visited there was a small arts trail of garden-themed sculptures to explore.
A nice enough way to spend an hour or so on a summer's afternoon. I imagine that in "non covid" times it could become rather busy.

As enjoyable as I hoped and surprisingly relaxing; beautiful dappled shade too on a hot day :) guide was affable & knowledgeable- sitting next to her really helped with both hearing her & asking questions. The gardens were very varied & great to see. I thought it was possible to see them on foot; but that isn’t the case so take a boat if you want to have a tour. Also although I booked online & skipped dessert to make the right time, they didn’t seem overly bothered about my booking time and didn’t scan the code. I suspect we could have turned up late & been fitted in :)

The boat trip is just fascinating. We had a very enthusiastic guide, speaking to us in French and English , to explain the history and present of this huge nature reserve with all its part time inhabitants and owners. Just see it! Then you can walk around and see again the strange and beautiful sights you only glimpsed at leisure.

A 45 minute peaceful outing on the Somme canal, gliding on local river boats, seeing what remains of a centuries-old tradition of market--gardening stretching back over 500 years. 100 years ago there were 1000 market gardeners in the canal around Amiens. Now only around 10. A volunteer organisation keeps the awareness alive. Worth supporting, and maintaining.

The boat trip through the waterways was lovely and interesting as far as described on web pages and tourist brochures. Unfortunately, at the starting place itself there is no information given (apart from a few words about which boat to get into, in French) and most guides speak only in French - so if you don't understand French you will miss out on all the explanations and various jokes during the tour. Some of the countryside and cultivated gardens with wildlife are beautiful, but others are quite kitschy. Having said the above, I would definitely choose to go on this, especially as a contrast to the cities and World War history you might otherwise be exploring.

We went there discovering Amiens and learned a lot on how it was built and known at the time. I loved how pationated the guides were in the history of this place. It's lovely, cheap and lasts about 40 minutes. Highly recommend. I went on this trip four times so far and gain knowledge evertime!

Take a boat ride through the canals of the floating gardens of Amiens and you won't believe that you are minutes away from the center of the city, and only a 15 minute walk away from the Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens.

It was a grey, overcast and chilly day that we visited Amiens but we decided to take the boat ride through the floating gardens as a change from visiting the usual museums and churches. Even though the weather wasn't the best there was a constant stream of people coming down from the Ticket Office and waiting at the boat launch, but there were enough boats that no one waited too long. It was a bit disorganized on the dock as the passengers milled about looking for their assigned boat but the boatmen took everyone in charge and boarded everyone according to their number, so that was all right.

Once on our way, the electric boat glided through the canals so quietly that we often surprised wildlife like Grey Herons, and the many kinds of ducks who make their homes there. Unfortunately the commentary was only in French and as our French wasn't quite up to speed we missed most of what was said, which was a shame. No matter though, the scenery was lovely and the boat ride was relaxing.

The boat ride around the canals of the floating gardens of Amiens was a relaxing, pleasant break in the day. Recommended!

Of course, this attraction is very much depending of the weather, but if you have the chance to go for it by a sunny day, you won't regret it!
