Extremely disappointed visiting here today! The amount of people is absolutely ridiculous and completely unsafe! We walked across as the que for the shuttle was over a hour wait! When we arrived we walked to the village and had to turn around straight away due to fear of being crushed!
We went in one over priced souvenir shop which was €8 euro for a magnet! Outrageous. We promised the children an ice cream and the ques again were ridiculous. This beautiful island and abbey has been spoilt by the amount of tourists it allows there! I would have been devastated if I had booked a hotel on the island as you couldn’t even walk around without fear!
This would have been better charging people to access this via the visitor centre and limiting the amount of People on the island!

Very very disappointed and would not recommend to anybody!

We stayed on the mainland and spent an evening exploring the Mont's tidal area, village and having dinner and then the next morning we returned and toured the Abbey.
The whole area is the attraction more than any one activity.
The water was pretty low when we arrived. I had not planned on stepping out on the flats because I didn't want to get dirty or worry about water. But there were so many people wandering around close to the walls that I felt safe to walk around the entire base and we never got into soggy sand area. The next morning places were we had walked was wet. We took so many cool photos as everywhere you looked the sites were gorgeous.
If you do want to actually go out into the flats you should get a guide.
We left the island around 10:15am while people were really starting to come, so we never saw it super crowded. It was fabulous if you have a night to spend to do what we did.

The bay that surrounds Mont St-Michel has hugely changing tides, so we were happy to take some time during our visit (one full day, two nights) to the area to watch it change. During low tide, we joined a large number of people who are out on the newly exposed sand near the island. It sounds like it can be dangerous, and venturing further out would make a guide a good idea, but just near the walls and bridge, it felt fine and we enjoyed seeing the island and bridge from a new perspective. We spent about 20 minutes out on the sand, as well as time admiring the bay at various times and and angles - we found the views from the dam and from the bridge especially appealing.

St. Michel is truly a spectacular site, worldwide unique. This was my first visit and I saw it twice - both, during night and day. However, both times it was during the low tide.
I was amazed by that beauty making so many pics - the scenery around looks like from another planet.
Unfortunately, the high tide was something around 3.40 AM and late afternoon next day when we had to be at another place on our 10 day Normandy-Brittany tour, so I'm sure to be back some day to see that.

One of the most amazing sights while visiting Mont-Saint-Michel, actually when leaving and walking across the bay, was the low sound of an airplane engine, then seeing 14 parachutes open up and glide quietly toward the ground. These were not tandem jumps, the parachutes looked like army style, and about 30 minutes later, there was the sound of a plane again and 14 more parachutes were seen in the sky. It was Friday, September 30 late afternoon, and we wondered, if there was any significance to these. They must have had an incredible view of the island and the bay.

If you are feeling adventurous when visiting Mont Saint Michel. You can reach it by tithe free shuttle or by foot. You can choose to walk on paved roads or on mud! Preferably during low tide (when sea water is at its lowest, it happens twice in 24 hours). There are plenty tide time tables online and are pretty the same. Beware that the sea water rises well before the time on the time table. Take your shoes off before walking on the mud. And there is nearly no possibilities to wash at Mom Saint Michel. Better do it on your way back.

Bucket list! Worth the wait and very long bus ride to see it!

It is hard to find words to describe the beautiful sculptural nature of this site. The photographs simply do not do it justice. This is a site you have to experience!

We had to endure a 3 hour bus ride ( both ways) to spend a couple of hours here. I strongly suggest that you allow more time to tour the mountain to see and feel all it has to offer. What ever you do, you have to make the climb to the Monastery and go through ALL the rooms. They are fantastic and beautiful for the time they were built. The path through the monetary is complex and confusing--take a map with you! The views from the top are really special.

The walk back down is also interesting and you need time to stop and look--time we did not have! There are some interesting shops and restaurants that we missed.

This is a popular site and it is crowded. There is a lot of renovation going on as well. Wear very comfortable shoes that have good traction. Take your own water with you. Do not let your guide scare you about the climb! However, it is not a "wheel chair friendly" path! We did see some people trying to do it with canes--not a good idea!

I went to Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, French with my sisters, brothers and daughter in July 2019. The weather was nice, warm and windy.
We started the journey from Paris to Caen by train. The one-way train ticket was €15 per person. And after spending one night to explore Caen, the next morning we traveled from Caen to Mont Saint-Michele by Flixbus. The return bus ticket was €17 per person.
You better purchase both the train ticket and the bus ticket on line in advance.
The bus has to stop at the bus parking lot, which is about a couple kilometers away from the site of Mont Saint-Michel. From this parking lot you could go to the site either by shuttle bus or walking.
The shuttle busses come and go every about 10 minutes which is pretty convenience, even if you travel with elderly or young kids.
Mont Saint-Michel was truly gorgeous heritage, with incredible strong constructions, surrounded by the sea.
Inside the wall of Mont Saint-Michel, there are some old houses which are repurposed for museum, hotel, restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops.
There is also a monastery inside, which unfortunately we didn't get the chance to visit because we had to catch our bus.
We will surely go there again next time.
