About
Escape the city and get closer to nature at the Clent Hills, where you can take in panoramic views stretching to the Black Mountains. A much-loved beauty spot for hundreds of years, the Clent Hills are cared for by the National Trust. Walk the trails to the peak of Clent Hill to see the four stones, an 18th-century folly. There's something to see in every season on the hills, including blankets of bluebells in the spring. The Nimmings Wood car park off Hagley Wood Lane is run by the National Trust and is £4 to park all day, these funds go back into caring for Clent. There is an independent café here where you can get a butty and hot drink, toilet facilities, picnic benches and a natural play area for children. Free parking is available at Walton Hill, just a short walk away. Dogs are welcome at the Clent Hills. Please keep them on a lead in the car park, café area and on the Easy Access path as well as in areas grazed by livestock. Please keep dogs under close control.

Locked in car of a mother with two children. No contact number. Mother had to get children home on foot and abandon car until next day. Ruthless policy and unnecessary. Closing the car park forces cars onto the road outside causing obstructions. Thoughtless actions by uncaring people. I think visitors are not really welcome

A lovely day adventuring with the family today at Clent despite the weather being a bit rainy, would recommend wearing walking boots or something you’d be happy to get muddy! Fun for young kids along the tracks too.
Don’t forget to stop for a hot drink and a bacon buttie at the end! Super fresh bread and vegetarian options too.

I have ran and walked Clent Hills for over thirty years. Today whilst cross-country running around the Clent hills, I ran through a field up to Nimmings car park. Suddenly, I was shouted at by a warden from a long way to get my ex-guide dog on a lead because I "was breaking the law". My dog runs at heel and I was on a public footpath which passed through a field of cows which were on the other side of the field.
On returning, another warden shouted at me to get the dog on a lead as I was worring the cows which were nowhere near the footpath. I was shouted at and told that by my dog not being on a lead regardless that he was under close control meant that he would be shot (by who?) and the council would fine me (really?).
Totally unacceptable behaviour from two representatives of the NT.
If they cared to look at the law, a dog is not worrying livestock when walking or running to heel and is not required to be on a lead on a public right of way.
National Trust, you need to train your wardens to not treat everyone as if they are going to spoil the countyside.

I come here quite often with different friends. We always start with a breakfast sandwich and end with a coffee and a cake. The sandwiches are great. The staff are friendly and work hard. It has been difficult lately with all the restrictions but they do their best. It can get very very busy so be patient.

Really pleasant place to visit.. certainly worth going. And as a member of the trust too as I enjoy visiting places. Was a little muddy underfoot and slippery in places but overall was good experience. Though recommend not going when it’s busy and try and go when it is quieter times..

A good family day spoiled only by grotty weather. The paths are good and passable even in rain. The sausage and bacon sarnies are worth going for alone. In great weather the views would be brilliant

Parked at Nimmings Car Park. Free for us as NT members.
Walked on the accessible path to the Four Stones. My wife, who has RA found the path easy. The girls loved it. Ran much of the way up.
Superb views from the top. It’s possible to walk many of the paths around the hills.
Wonderful bacon sandwich from the cafe in the car park.

I do love coming here. It's not that far for me to get too and as a NT member, I can park for free. I am gutted the oldest tree is no longer standing, it was my favorite part about CH. However, it's still a beautiful place in any weather.

The most ridiculous "dogs on a leash" policy is now in place along the pathways from Nimmings Wood car park to the top of Clent. This is enforced by signs and National Trust "Patrols" who I found to be quite abrupt. I was told that if I didn't leash my family friendly 12 year old dog (who doesn't wonder off more than a few metres from my side) that they would look at contacting the council to issue fines and they would take my car registration down as I left . I doubt the legality of this for a start !
I have a dog and young children who want to walk but aren't capable of walking any reasonable distance without wanting to be picked up for periods. There is no way I can hold and push all of them !!
No doubt there are a minority of irresponsible dog walkers that don't pick up poo etc but why should the responsible majority be affected ???
I am told that there was an "extensive" visitor consultation which led to this policy. So, according to Clent Hills, this is what the users want !! Seriously ???
Anyway, to summarise, I will no longer be able to use Clent as I cannot walk my young children and have a dog on a lead at the same time. Such a shame as I love my children to be outdoors. I'll have to wait for my children to get older I guess....
Hope this doesn't spoil Clent for others as it has for me as Clent truly is a splendid place....

Are there any walks where you can take a pushchair on by any chance?
Written January 12, 2020
Yes, you can walk up the easy access path to the topograph which has a great view. The path is compacted sandstone and is still rough and bumpy but has a very low incline.

Best place to park if your planning on walking up before the sunrise so about 6am?
Written February 27, 2019
The best place to park to see the sunrise is Walton Hill car park. We advise not to park on Hagley Wood Lane as this can cause obstructions for emergency service vehicles during busy times.

Can you pay with card at the cafe
Written October 20, 2018
Yes, you can use card to pay at the café. It's an independent café and is not run by the National Trust.
Written December 21, 2022
The countryside is open 24/7 but Nimmings Wood car park closes at 17.00 in the summer and 16.00 during the winter months. We advise not to park on Hagley Wood Lane as this can cause obstructions for emergency service vehicles during busy periods. The best place to park out of hours is at Walton Hill car park.
Written December 21, 2022
The name of the park gives people a clue as to its terrain, as well as the drive to the park and its geographical location is a massive clue that there will be hills!!!

I'm a student in Birmingham and I can't drive but I would really like to visit. Is there any way of getting there via public transport? If so, what is best?
Written March 14, 2018
The best way to get to the hills from the city centre by public transport would be by train. You can get a train to Hagley station and then it's a 40 minute walk to Adam's Hill, which is probably the quickest access point for the Clent Hills by train. You can also get the X10 bus to Halesowen, then the 192 to Hagley then a 40 minute walk to Adam's Hill.

Dogs are welcome throughout the Clent Hills. Please keep your dog on a lead in the courtyard area around the café at Nimmings Wood car park, as well as the Meadow, accessed behind the toilets. We also ask you to keep your dog on a lead up the Easy Access Path to the top of Clent Hill.
There are plenty of areas that your dog can be off the lead, although we ask you to keep them under close control at all times. Please be considerate of other dog walkers, horse-riders, cyclists and visitors to the hills as well.
You can find more information on visiting the Clent Hills with your dog on our website.

Hi, is the car park free is you are a national trust member? X
Written May 21, 2017
The Nimmings Wood car park is free for National Trust members when you scan your membership card at the machine by the café. It's £4 for non-members to park all day and these funds help us care for Clent. Toilets are also available here. There is also a free car park at Walton Hill which has a lot of spaces. A small car park is also available at Adam's Hill, however this has a very limited number of spaces.
