The bridge was built in the Middle Age, and today only pedestrians are allow to cross it. What is truly amazing is that when you or I step down from its sidewalk to its "street", you can feel the bridge vibrating?!! If we hadn't know about the age of the bridge, we would probably not have dared crossing it. Today Céret only has one "modern" bridge leading out of town, but a second one is scheduled to be build within the next 3-5 years.

The first thing to say is that the main photograph currently on TA of this attraction is not the Pont de Diable. There are three bridges together and the two modern ones have straight tops, while the ancient bridge is arched. So, having got that whine out of the way: Pont du Diable is a splendid bridge spanning the river Teche, and stands alongside two more modern and far less attractive bridges. Built in 1321 during the reign of the Kings of Majorca, this bridge is a masterpiece of medieval architecture, and its single arch spans 45 metres. I also like the fact that, rather than just build a solid structure, the architect included other decorative arches within the main design. The bridge is in a nice location with some attractive houses on riverbank on the town side.

When visiting Ceret, Pont de Diable is a must see. It’s a short walk from the centre of town and has beautiful views of the countryside. The bridge is pedestrian only so you are able to take great photos safely.

And fantastic views towards Canigou (Pyrénées) and the surrounding area. Pedestrians and cycles only, beautifully restored.

On the edge of Ceret, adjacent to a modern road and railway bridge, the pont du diable is a lovely structure spanning the river. The best view is from the new road bridge
