The old town is gorgeous, so many beauty buildings to see, lovely quirky streets and shops/cafes. If you are in Vannes on a Wednesday or a Saturday be sure to visit the outdoor market, it is an assault on the senses!

This is free just to be there. Take lots of photos and enjoy the wonderful shops all around. When we visited, there was a large public market there and the surrounding area. The food was amazing!!! Oddly enough, the public market "closed" by the time we got back there around 2pm--like it never existed. This was during the weekday so... More

The ancient Vannes center is sited on a hill top where very well preserved buildings and houses surround the Place Henri IV. At one corner one could see the wood bust of Vanne and his wife who one believe were the former properties of the XVI century pub.

This is a very pretty square, where you feel in medieval times. AQs a matter of fact for their independence day, on July 14th, there is a medieval festival, and in this plaza there are representations of small sketches, everybody dressed in medievl costumes, music of that time, very pretty and nice ambiance.

beautiful square with lots of interesting shops coming off this square. Very exciting sardine shop and rather expensive but unusual clothing shops in this area. Quite a touristy street but wonderfully atmospheric - not to be missed

Try to come early in the morning because the city and the square can be very crowded afterwards. But it is well worth the visit, one of the best preserved medieval cities in France with fine examples of architecture and lot of interesting places to visit.

We found a free car park 5 minute's walk from the town centre and explored on foot. Everything is close-by in Vannes. Place Henry IV was easy to find, just ollowing everyone else. Luckily we arrived mid-morning on a weekday, but it was already getting busy with tourists. The medieval timber framed buldings are superb, fitting with the rest of... More
