Small square located in the heart of the old city. Lindissima. Redeada of old wooden buildings, very well preserved and with several cafes and terraces.
I advise you to have a coffee on one of these terraces and enjoy the atmosphere

We have often taken holidays on the S Brittany coast. Vannes is the local centre.

This makes a pleasant change for 'Townies' from beach and countryside, and useful for supplies and prezzies.

Best to park up on the many free spaces by the Marina and walk up the harbour to the city gates. The castle and fortifications are worth a look and there are modern shops and a very cutesy photo-op old quarter.

There are lots of restaurants for all tastes and prices, as well as bread/cake shops.

Also worth a visit is the nearby hidden gem:-

Quai Franklin at Saint-Goustin Port, nearby Auray

We found a free car park 5 minute's walk from the town centre and explored on foot. Everything is close-by in Vannes. Place Henry IV was easy to find, just ollowing everyone else. Luckily we arrived mid-morning on a weekday, but it was already getting busy with tourists. The medieval timber framed buldings are superb, fitting with the rest of this lovely quaint littl town. They are best admired before it gets too buy, sat in on of the many street cafés, and enjoing he excellent french coffee with a sweet something...
Well wort a visit.

This is a small square surrounded by 14th/15th century building all in good order. It is a very popular tourist spot hence always crowded but still provides good photo opportunities. There are often a street performers there. On any visit to Vannes, it should not be missed.Vannes

Place Henry IV is little cobbled square just off the town centre, the ramparts and cathedral and is surrounded by colourful half-timbered buildings so close that their eaves almost touch, sending you straight back in time. Most of the buildings are beautifully intact with the ground floors tastefully turned into shops and the many café/restaurants. After a stroll around the square and a walk up the many small lanes it is very pleasant to sit outside one of the restaurants for a coffee or a light lunch and take in the buildings and people watch.

The fact that these building are still standing is a testament to their sturdy construction. Some of the buildings are showing their age, and one can image the extensive renovations, maintenance required to keep the building is good shape for the tourists to admire. If you have never seen a medieval city, this is a good example, but good to keep in mind that in medieval times, these buildings never looked so good.

Vannes is a very beautiful town and this is one of the best parts. A very wonderful place. The buildings are so nice just strolling through the town at a leisurely pace is the best thing to do.
