When we wandered this pretty garden, you could find amidst the beautifully maintained hedges and flower beds a giant yellow wellie and a huge watering can. There are some very steep pathways that will take you over to the churches.

We (four friends) traveled by car in Britany. On the way down from Mont Saint-Michel, we decided to spend the night in Fougères.
Next morning we picked a map at the Tourism Office where it was indicated a walk in that French Town – it’s a very nice one – you walk along the most interesting streets, by the most important monuments and through the gardens where you stop at nice belvederes.
If you are on the road from Mont Saint-Michel to Rennes or vice-versa stop at Fougères because it’s worth a visit.
Enjoy!

Have been here many times with friends and family and it never disappoints. Layout is always superb with wonderful views of the chateau and countryside. Walk down to medieval quarter and chateau is well worth it

The gardens were a great way to fill an afternoon with three energetic children. There was an exhibition of pig sculptures which fascinated us all and the beautiful gardens had been planted with some fabulous displays. The walk down to the town is very steep and has a few steps, which we had to carry our pushchair over but otherwise, we found it very accessible.

With stunning views over the town and Fort, this garden is a lovely place for a walk, enter the bandstand and sing and hear the acoustics, the mix of vegetables and flowers are so well kept and presented, its a steep walk down but very rewarding. Dont miss if your in the area.

The parks in Fougeres really blend the city together and make for a wonderful experience. We did a loop from the castle, up the hill into the center of town and then back down into the center of the medieval village. Really nice walk and impressive gardens for small town. Loved it!

One of the nicest view in Brittany, see the castle and the old medieval city below from the botanical gardens located besides a centuries old church.

Arriving in Fougeres, there is free car parking by the castle and it's easy to join the circular town walk which will take you through the old town and up to the public gardens. The gardens are situated in the high part of town and the view of the castle, old town and surrounding countryside is amazing. It is quite a steep walk up through the winding paths of the gardens but there are benches along the way and the view makes the effort worthwhile. Alternatively, you could park in the high part of town and simply walk round the church to the gardens and views. It would be less strenuous but even if you did it this way, make sure you get down to the castle and the characterful old town streets as well.

Good example of well maintained public gardens with some interesting examples of modern (quirky) public-space art. Just shows what can be achieved with some modest public investment. Well done Fougeres.

Signs at St. Leonard's church sent us to the chateau via public gardens. What a fine detour. In formal French gardening style they descend slowlyvto the valley leading to the chateau.
