We were a group of travellers from Canada, who visited this interesting oyster farm. The young lady who was our guide was very entertaining and knowledgable, and after presenting an informative video on the intricacies of oyster farming, took us out to the factory in order to see the manufacturing process. We were shown how they were farmed, cleaned, graded and then trained to close by themselves and keep freshwater in so they can be shipped. The oysters are checked by hand, packed in seaweed to keep in the humidity and then shipped all over the world. They are good for eight to ten days after their packing date. Always check the date! The visit culminated with an oyster tasting including white wine, enjoyed by most of our group! Worth a visit.

Really well organised visit. Lots to see and learn and oysters to taste as well. Sea shell room is amazing one person’s life time collection. We also did the seaweed tour at the end which was enjoyable and seaweed tapenade to finish

Tours are once daily - but except for July-August the tours are only in French. When we reached the farm we where advised about this schedule and that we can see the farming by ourselves at the low tide. But we found a better source by ourselves - Youtube. And we got it English!

Interesting oyster farm around 20 mins walk from Cancale “main strip”/bus station. Its a nice walk along the coast until you reach this oyster farm. The place itself is quite simple - consisting of a museum of sea shells, then visitors a shown a video with some exhibits on oysters farming. Then taken to the “beach” plus a brief glimpse of the factory itself. There is some oysters to be tasted at the end of the tour. There is an English tour daily 2pm (but do double-check website for latest) - full tour is around 1.5 hours. No need to pre-book.

As Cancale is an epicentre for oyster production and you can buy them anywhere in Cancale you might have a few questions like "how are they grown", "what does the numbering mean" and "what are the differences between the types". All these questions and a lot more are answered and you even see the production site. A very good and informative experience.
