Having been coming to the Fouesnant area for summer holidays for over 20 years, and never having made it to the Isles of Glenan, we decided to book a trip this year. The worst thing is that the weather is (inevitably!) variable, but there is a lot of demand, so you have to book your tickets in advance, not knowing what the weather will be like on the day. We booked a few days in advance and although the forecast was not great, we were lucky to have sunshine for most of the day. St Nicolas is so tiny that you wouldn't want to go and spend the day there when the weather is bad--nothing to do and nowhere to shelter from rain. We took a boat from Beg Meil to St Nicolas, for the whole day and had time to have a coffee before walking to the sand bar for our picnic lunch, then walking round part of the coast, before spending time on the beach (including a swim). The water is beautifully clear, but much colder than on the mainland beaches. We also took an extra boat trip around the archipelago, to see some of the other islands from the sea. The highlight of the boat trip from Beg Meil to St Nicolas, and the tour of the archipelago, was the lovely French guide Cecile, who provided a commentary in both French and English, and made every effort to ensure that we understood everything. She was a delight to talk to and to listen to, including historical information and spotting dolphins and birds. If you go on this trip, make sure to take all your drinks with you. There are two restaurants but to eat there you have to book in advance.

We sailed on the boat out to the Glenan Islands from Concarneau. After a stop on St Nicholas Island we then went off for a one hour guided tour of the Island on the boat to then return again to Concarneau. There are a few options you can add to your return visit especially in the high season. Be warned that even when quite sunny that it can be chilly on the boat trip so take an extra layer. There is an English commentary on the guided tour which you have to listen to quite hard to as the boat is quite noisy and the speaker (not surprisingly) speaks with a strong French accent - but to be fair, how many things like this in the UK ever provides commentary in a different language!! St Nicholas, which was the only island we set foot on, is just beautiful with clear waters and other islands dotted about. In the sunshine we had it really was like the Caribbean! There is are some beautiful little stretches of beach and in June they weren't crowded. We enjoyed the bird life throughout the tour - if you like this sort of thing then take your binos. We took the boat about 13.15 and I would advise getting some lunch in Concarneau to eat on the boat trip. There are 2 cafes/restaurants on St Nicholas but why waste your valuable time on the island waiting for service. On the return trip we were a little alarmed when the boat took a sudden change in direction until they announced they had spotted Dolphins which joined us alongside the boat for 10mins. Not sure if this is a frequent occurance or not. It was all finished off when we docked, with a lovely little song sung by one of the staff. The end to a pretty perfect day thanks to Vedettes d'Odet.

Tourist trap. At nearly €100 for a family of 4 you are sent up river on a boat and forced to listen to a tour guide who you can’t understand over the tannoy.

If you like pine trees this is the trip for you. Plenty of them line the riverbank.

Unfortunately 2hrs of my life that I will not get back.

I regret to read your dissatisfaction, a pity that you did not appreciate the comments of our guide and the so bucolic setting of the Odet. Regards.

Great service on board. Great staff, really attentive and great with all passengers especially when one of our crossings to Glenan was really rough. Would certainly use again.

Board the marvellous boat at Benodet and sail across the sea to the stunning Iles de Glenan. We also did the 1 hour discovery trip around the islands. Our tour guide was excellent, very informative and spoke excellent English. A bit pricey for a family of 4 (157 Euros, including the discovery trip). Highly recommend.

We went from Benodet to Iles de Glenan. We were told the trip would take an hour but it stopped at Loctudy and took 1hr 40. From the photos I was expecting a rather quiet place with 100 or so tourists but it was teeming and there were boats moored everywhere. We thought there were not enough boats to take everyone back and were proved right. Two of us had tickets for the 17.45 but it was overbooked and they had to STAND.

Dear sir or madam, I am sorry to read your opinion on Tripadvor. The trip to join the Glenan archipelago from the coast takes about 1 hour and can go from Benodet to Loctudy before joining the islands .Most of the time, guests enjoy the sea and the trip ! Sorry for you if you didnot enjoy the trip and the islands, you should get inform before booking... Everybody has a seat on the boat, we never are on overbooking. You made a mistake.

It’s a very relaxing and pleasant trip. Easy to board and the boat was clean and staff efficient, so what’s not to like? Well, having dinner on the trip makes it pretty expensive even with a group discount. Views along the route are fine but not outstanding. Several decent chateaux and some wildlife but not nearly enough for two or three hours on the boat. Food was good. Well presented and served efficiently. Wines included in the group rate were acceptable too. All in all very pleasant but needs to be about 20% cheaper than the group rate to be good value for money.

This is a great excursion up and down the river Odet. Very pleasant and beautiful Manors to see as well as, if you are lucky, birds along the banks of the river. But the meals are way too elaborate and expensive. A simple meal and less pricey would be welcome.

Not being able to pick up the boat in Quimper, we drove to Benodet and did the return trip along the Odet from here.
The boat was clean and the staff pleasant.
Our disappointment was that there was so little to see along the way. Some beautiful chateaux, a couple of houses, a pair of swans and several egrets!
The lengthy comentry was in French, (quite reasonable as most of the passengers were French) with an abbreviated English translation.
It was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours but we thought a little pricy at €26 each.

Prompt and friendly service, good value (€12 for 2A+2C return). The ferry is small and could consider more comfortable seating but the journey is only around 5 minutes.
