The château of Parentignat was built between 1707 and 1720 by Anne-Francois de Lastic, Marquess of Sieujac and Captain of a Royal infantry regiment, on the foundations of an old fortress. The chateau remains in the family to this day and is the object of an extensive restoration programme. The landscaped gardens can be viewed from the terrace at the back of the château, which is lined with heirloom roses and fantastic orange trees in their original 18th century pots. The gaiety of this green and pleasant "natural" garden provides a stark contrast with the formal geometry of the lawns in the front courtyard which have been restored recently, along with the avenue of lime trees leading to the chateau's entrance. The château has always been renowned for being so sumptuously appointed. Its furniture and art collections have always been exceptional.

The Chateau has remained in the family of its founders. Many of the furnishings are original and it sits in a beautiful park. Guided tours only. Some quality paintings particularly from Vigee Lebrun.

The reconstruction of the chateau has added to its historic charms. A great place to visit and the guide is very knowledgeable and "passionate" in providing descriptions. The Library is outstanding as is the garden [a fine example of an "English Garden"]. Definitely worth a...More

Beautiful collection of paintings, beautiful landscaped garden. Tours only with guides; Opening hours on the site are wrong, it's only open in the afternoon.

The chateau is known as the little Versailles, and is considered "living history" as the present day owners still live in it. It's family-owned and handed down through the generations, which gives it a special feel. The guided tour costs 9e each, and is conducted...More
