    Could be so much better
To start with the positives; the people who work there, especially Anne at reception, were fantastic. Local restaurant recommendations, taxi booking, winery tours, umbrellas when raining ect etc were handled brilliantly. The property was in immaculate condition and was beautiful and charming. The location was good, about 20 mins from the centre of Bordeaux city, however it is located in a semi suburban setting and not in the rolling vineyard and countryside we expected (obviously not the hotels fault). I think anyone booking at this property needs to be aware of the factors listed below. 1. This is not really a hotel but more a bed and breakfast with a dinner option or perhaps a guest house; 2. Whilst there are communal areas they are not overly welcoming or comfortable so you can’t relax and enjoy reading a book or chatting over a glass of wine; 3. There is no catering outside of breakfast and dinner (if you book) so should you wish to have a light lunch or afternoon drink or snack this is not an option for you. Equally the local town closes at 2pm so be sure to byo. 4. Breakfast was basic but not unpleasant. Only hot option was scrambled egg. 5. Dinner… promised so much but was so very disappointing. We were offered a 3 course set menu with a couple of choices for each course. Entree was fine but we selected the lamb shank for mains and it was was very dry and tough. The highlight was the lemon soufflé desert option. There was not cheese option offered. Everything was served within the hour. 6. Wine pairing wasn’t wine pairing at all, we were asked to select 2 wines from the menu and they served both before we started dinner. 7. We book suite, the room was very red, lighting was not great so room was very dark. There was no full mirror and the makeup mirror was a handheld one. There was no standup shower so yo have to sit in the bath and hold the shower head over you. Was tricked when washing your hair 😣. 8. The bed was very soft and there was no turn down service on the second night. This place has the potential to be amazing but needs a little more

    Nicely run tour.
Beautiful grounds. We took the Wine Tasting and Vineyard Tour (English Speaking). Unfortunately, it was pouring rain so we did not get to tour the vineyards, but were allowed to go out and walk around later, which we did. The Vineyard Tour was great, but one draw back was our guide had such a heavy accent, we could not understand her fully. Even though that was an issue, I asked questions, when I could not understand and she was more than accommodating to clarify. The wine tasting segment went perfectly as our guide for that could speak English with less of an accent. All in all, it was a good experience.

    Amazing Chateau in Bordeaux
The chateau is easily accessible from Bordeaux by public transport. Pessac has both a train station and a tram terminus. There is a bus from the town centre to the Chateau but as we were early for the tour we ended up walking and having a look at the nearby Cite Fruges. I have to admit that the tour could have been better, our tour guide though lovely, was rather inexperienced and this allowed some people in the group to be rude to her. Her English was not great either so I didn't understand everything she said. Looking at the shop before the tour started we figured out that Pape Clement wines are quite expensive and in the tasting we were offered 3 such wines which was an experience in itself. The owner however has many properties around the world and the shop sells wines from those too, so we were able to buy a couple of less expensive wines. My favourite part of the tour, apart from the tasting was being shown to the buildings were the wine is made and where the barrels are stored. Even better than the tour was being allowed to explore the gardens on our own. There are plants from all over the world, beautifully arranged with an audio guide you get on your phone. We ended up staying nearly till closing time there, so it was an amazing experience.

    Guided Tour
Even though majority of the group was not french speaking , the guide only done the tour in french. Overall experience was underwhelming and the wine tasting was sub par. Expected better. Better chateaux in Bordeaux to visit.

It is a tourist trap for several reasons, I paid 20€ per person, a total of 84€ for 4 persons and it’s not worth it.

The tour group was a total of 18 people, it was disorganized and the explanations were sloppy and very general. The worst happened at the time of wine tasting, there was not enough room for everyone, having a reduced space for each one. The wine testing room is good and safe for about 8 people, but we were 18!

We had nowhere to put the wine glasses, like the half of the group, in addition the host was not interested about the crowded situation and she told us that it was “normal”.

The most important issue is the lack of COVID concern, having 18 people packed in a minimum space for the wine tasting and without the mask!

The other wineries that I have visited in 2020 and 2021 have had a maximum of 8 people with plenty of room to spare during the wine testing.
It’s a shame that a very nice winery with a beautiful chateau and gardens is spoiled by a low grade tour.

Dear Madam, Dear Sir, Thank you for your review following your visit at Château Pape Clément. We deeply regret to read how much your experience was disappointing. During your 1 hour tour, your discover the history of the property (more than 7th centuries), you can learn about our technics at the vineyard and you visit the vat-house and barrel cellar to know eveything about our winemaking process. We must say following the comments of our visitors, the guide whom did your visit has a very good knowledge of wine and we truly regret you experienced a less than perfect visit with us. About your tasting experience, we apology you didn't feel confortable in the tasting room. We allow 20 people per group during our visit and tasting because the measures allow it with the surface of our wineshop. We don't want our visitors feel unconfratable and unsafe. Doors are staying open and you could seat outside in ou terrasse if it was more convenient for you. We also have a large bar and barrels to put your glass on it. Despite your review, we hope to have the pleasure to welcome you again and offer your a more personolized visit that can meet your expectations, Best regards,

Tour around the Chateau Pape Clement followed by the Four Seasons wine tasting.

The property is exceptionally well maintained with a lush exotic garden, vintage cars, beautiful buildings and ofcourse vineyards.

The sommelier who gave us the tour was very knowledgeable and honest about the various wines and the process of making them. For us this was by far the most in-depth explanation of Bordeaux wineries. Make sure to challenge them by asking for details.

The wine tasting consisted of Bernard Magrez wines from various regions, ages and prices, 2 white wines, 2 red wines and 1 dessert wine which fit the price point of this tour. We definitely recommend a visit to this Château.

Very knowledgeable and impressive young host, the 1,5 hour tour was very interesting and varied. The grounds were beautiful and the inside was stunning too. The wine tasting at the end was great and we bought a few bottles in the shop to enjoy on the grounds. Thoroughly recommend! Our cab from Bordeaux city was about €40 and took about 25 mins.

Incredible wines and fascinating viticulture passion.
Being one of the big classics, this winery steps up to the plate and delivers great reds. The wines are fabulous but what intrigued me was the fact that the whites are utterly different in every year.
They don’t clearly don’t try and make a “brand” every year, they just make the very best wine possible.
We even met the owner and Jérémy who managed the shop was most accommodating

We have booked for Food & Wine Pairing: Wine & Cheese on the 27/7/2022. The visit was for 2 hours and the time was fully utilized in a very efficient manner.
We spent an hour in touring the chateau, where they have explained to us the process of wine making from planting the vines up to the bottling of the wine. The second hour was spent in wine and cheese pairing testing some magnificent wines not only from the specific chateau but from other producers as well. The sommelier who accompanied us, was superb; explaining everything in a simple and understandable manner; especially for my family who has limited knowledge on wine, the tour was more than ideal.

Very nice and informative wine tasting visit, on a beautiful property. Wine is great as well. I did enjoy the smaller "1:1" tours we had at other properties more but I would still recommend adding this group tour at Chateau Pape Clement to the list of wineries you should visit while in Bordeaux.

We had an amazing tasting with Hugh. He was knowledgeable, funny, charming and an exceptional host.

We are a group of rather 'accomplished wine drinkers' who know a fair bit about wine production. We learned some great new things about the the vinification process at Pape Clement.

100% recommend this amazing tasting and a big thank you to our wonderful host, Hugh!

We booked an overnight stay in order to be near the airport which is 15 minutes away and enjoyed such a treat. The chateau is beautiful and the staff are tremendously friendly. We were upgraded to a lovely room and given a tour of the property which is fascinating. We arrived early in order to join the wine tour which was very well explained by a multilingual guide. It was lovely to be able to be part of such rich history. Definitely to be recommended!
