Steel "water tower" type construction of steel girders and cable. You ascend - descend via a swaying spiral staircase in the centre of the tower. It's not for the faint hearted. You have to wait until the staircase is free and take your turn. No supervision or attendants and so very French. A flat wooden platform at the top with guard rails. Stunning views over Arachon from the top of the Winter Town.
A nightmare to find (thank god for Google maps!) and descent walk up the hill through the posh part of town

It's a very tall observation tower, thin, and very scary especially when there's a strong wind.
But rest assured, the tower has been there for a long time and will not fall down. You get a fantastic view of the city from up there (but mind you, it's a very long and steep climb).

I am not that keen on heights, therefore found the ascent of the shaky spiral staircase rather an ordeal. However, the views once you get to the top are worth it. Each group of eight is limited to five minutes, which is ample to take a few photos of the panorama.

This is an interesting structure - be warned it sways a bit! The views from the top are interesting as opposed to awe-inspriring

It's a pleasant walk from the town, up through the park and then across the old foot bridge to the observatory. The structure itself seemed a but too risky to climb to us, however, it's situated on high ground and so even the views from its base, over the bay, are good.

It gives a 360º view of Arcachon and the bay. Great viewpoint to see the interesting architecture of the place.

We didn't climb up the tower as it has a steep, narrow set of stairs where it is not possible to pass people. Despite that it was worth visiting as there is a nice area at the tower base to enjoy the view & to watch others navigate the stairs.

Went up just half hour before sunset and enjoyed the view over Arcachon and the bay.
Not being too comfortable with heights, the unstable stairs were scary but it’s worth it.:-)

This little tower gives you a good overall view on Arcachon and that's all. The tower isn't too big, nor scary. Not too many stairs, so easily doable within your own time.

The tower itself is stable, but the spiral staircase is held up by cables and sways a bit as you use it. Nice views from the top. Ville d'Hiver is not so interesting from above because of all the trees, but the view over Arcachon bay is good.
