Don't start in Riquewihr!
Sep 2016 • Friends
Great villages, great scenery, great wines to taste during your walks. If you can don't start your walk in Riquewihr because you have to pay parking fee in this very beautiful but touristy village. You better park in Zellenberg or Beblenheim and visit Riquewihr after a great walk through the wineyards. Starting in these villages allows you as well to make a circle ( if you don't have time to do the 17km).

Walking in the vineyards and through typical alsacian villages
Sep 2015 • Couples
,We used "Sentier des Grands Crus" starting at Riquewihr, passed Hunawihr and Zellenberg , before returning to Riquewihr. We had really enjoyed this very fine walk through the vineyards and typival alsacian villages. Hunawihr is without no doubt an amazing location with its wonderful houses and the special church. Zellenberg is also worth a visit. We certainly will come back.

Nice walk around towns and vineyards
Jul 2015 • Couples
Good opportunity to walk around some of the lovely little towns and trough the wineyards. Easy walking, some parts along the road. Check the public buss schedule before you leave, so that you can take the bus back if you are tired.

Food for soul

The “Sentier Viticole des Grands Crus” is a circuit, almost 17 km long, to be travelled by walking or by bike, between the so called “Perles des Vignobles” (vineyards pearls), the villages of Riquewihr, Hunawihr, Zellemberg, Beblenheim, Mittelwihr and Bennwihr.
Furthermore, each village is the starting and arrival point of its own town circuit, much shorter, that is crossing the fields around the village itself.
A map, even rough, but sufficiently detailed to allow to do not get lost, is available et Riquewihr tourist office.
The path is passing through huge extensions of vineyards, in which the Grands Crus, excellence of the territory's wines, are produced; on the way you’ll find groves, picturesque villages, and striking corners (such as the fortified church of Hunawihr), that will render the path definitely enjoyable.
We left from Riquewihr, in which our B&B was located, going then to Hunawihr and Zellemberg, to finally go back to Riquewihr.
The trail is paved only in correspondence of the stretches allowing the cars transit; between the vineyards, the path is comfortable anyway, with some panels that delimitate the areas of production of the different Grands Crus.
You’ll meet animals going around absolutely undisturbed, savage orchids, apple and plum trees full of fruits (nobody will complain, whether you’ll gather some of them), and you’ll see grapes with all their range of colors.
A walk that allowed to enhance both our eyes and spirit; I suggest you to imitate us, you’ll enjoy it.

Riquewhir is a nice place to visit. Yet, keep it in perspective. It is over artificial, over priced and over decorated. It certainly lacks authenticity and once on the beautiful Route de Vin it is worth a detour. The bottles of wines you purchase in Riquewhir are highly overpriced, therefore, watch your wallet.
