This was a very affordable cooking lesson costing 1500 Bath each. We cooked 8 dishes and ate every one. The morning started at 9am with a visit to the market. This allowed us to understand how the markets work as they actually look totally chaotic. The food we cooked was delicious and a very accurate list of instructions was provided for each dish. There is no aircon in the kitchen and unfortunately the fans had to be turned off once the cooking was in progress. Otherwise I would have given this school five stars.…

Last week when holidaying in Chiang Mai, Thailand, my partner and I were recommended to do a cookery course as part of our Chiang Mai experience. The one recommended was called 'The Lemongrass Cookery School and I must say that it was great fun.Usually, my partner does the cooking because I'm not too good. But the instructress, called Jiab, was an absolute honey and made the whole cookery-learning event a piece of cake. I couldn't believe how interesting and easy it was. Much to the point, the surroundings were brilliant and to get to the kitchens, we went through the most beautiful garden. The whole experience was great and I really do recommend Lemongrass to anyone wanting to learn how to cook Thai.…

We were collected from our hotel in downtown Chiang Mai just after breakfast and driven about 20 minutes out of town to the Lemongrass Cookery School. On arrival, our initial impression was sheer delight. The kitchen is spacious and cleverly designed for its purpose. There is even an old fashioned open fireplace on the back wall. Jiab, our teacher for the day is clearly passionate about Thai cooking and she has a natural ability to pass on her skills, thanks to her friendly easygoing manner. There was a scheduled coffee break mid morning, during which we were encouraged to wander freely around the flower and herb gardens. During this period, Jiab took time to answer some questions on alternative ingredients for the benefit of those of us living in a cooler climate. At the conclusion of the course, we were all reluctant to leave this magical place. When it came to goodbyes,- it was like leaving old friends. We went to several recommended outings as suggested in our guide book, many of which were very enjoyable, but our visit to Lemongrass was easily the highlight of our three week holiday in Thailand. We'll be back, but next time we'll skip the hotel breakfast.…
