"Eyes that do not see Lanka Ella (Ella=waterfall) are not worth having" we were told, so what more motivation to go!? :D There are two routes as far as we know, one path that veers off to the left from the path to the Bambarakanda waterfalls, through the pine forest, and one path that goes downhill from the "weli wanguwa" on the Kalupahana-Ohiya road. We took the latter, which turned out to be the harder route with lots of ups and downs. Both routes are scenic so be sure to stop and enjoy the views along the way. If you use the first route, wear shoes with a good grip as the pine needles can be slippery and the terrain is sloped. A very scenic hike will take you to the falls, and the falls will surely take your breath away (It took us about an hour with a lot of resting). Take lots of water if you are hiking midday. The "mana" bushes can be sharp so a light, long sleeved shirt and long pants will protect your skin. The pool at the bottom is in the shape of Sri Lanka, hence the name. It's a beautiful picnic spot too, Sit, relax, enjoy the magnificent view and the melodies of nature, but please, please leave no trash behind!

Here, he is - Rupa!
He drove us from Ella to Matara very safely and relaxed. It was a wonderful trip with this so helpful and friendly man. He stopped and showed us a lot of interesting sights, so we could take a lot of Fotos.

We went there during our stay at the Bambarakanda Holiday Resort. This waterfall can been easily accessible when going to the famous Bambarakanda waterfall. There is a footpath which goes to the top of the Bambarakanda waterfall and you have to turn to left after going on about 50m in that footpath and then need to walk about 200m to reach the fall. This waterfall does not have a height of the Bambarakanda waterfall but it is a really nice to visit. Anyway please do not try to bath in the pool in front of this waterfall because it is deeper than you can see.

Lanka Ella Fall is one of the few waterfalls unspoiled by the human activity due to the location. This falls lies about 1 km away from the Bambarakanda Falls and is accessible only by foot. a must visit if you are in the area.

A small waterfall near Bambarakanda. Take the same path to the Bambarakanda and make a left at pines forest and walk about 01 km straight. The path is prominent. Bathing is fatal and not recommended. A serene and less crowded cascade.

most travelers ignore the Lanka Falls ... its worth the walk...definitely! Its in the same path as the Bambarakanda Falls but needs to walk a bit more future up the hill ... it has a natural pool so make sure to dip in... water is not that freezing..
