Also about Kaiser Maximilian a cute exhibition with plenty nice gimmicks to see about his life and death in Mexico. A tiny souvenir shop at the entrance. Calculate about 2 hours to browse all terrain

Entry is very reasonable, 7.50 euros for an adult, and well worth it. You can wander around the castle freely and you really get a feel for what it would have been like living there in it's heyday. It hasn't been "modified" like a lot of the castles we have visited and we really appreciated this. It has a lovely aspect and is great for photos. Really glad we took the time ti visit Castle Hardegg.

Unfortunately we could not enter the Castle, but it looked mysterious where it sits right on the border at Hardegg. We enjoyed lunch at the nearby cafe at Gasthof ChayaBruck.

Set in the beautiful environment of the forests lies this great castle, preserved for visitors. If you like castles, you will like this one, too. Some of the interior rooms are accessible (chapel, kitchen). Unfortunately, the towers are locked, but you can get a view from the windows.
Admission is 7.50 for adults, check the opening times on the internet (usually open on weekends)

This castle is basicaly half in ruine, half still in good shape, and you are free to walk around it. When we were there, there was even an exposition about when Maximilian was sitting on the throne of Mexico, as emperor. Its definitely worth a visit. You also get a nice view on the surrounding area.
I wouldn't advice it for people with a a walking disability. I would say you need about 1 to 2 hours of time for this place.
