Etna Excursions from Catania

192 reviews
Large bus tours usually take visitors to the Etna visitor center and easily accessible craters, but this tour offers a small, personalized exploration of other parts of the mountain. Travel in a 4WD vehicle or minivan to areas inaccessible by larger transport, and visit the Valle del Bove, a canyon-like depression with an interesting landscape, and the Silvestri Craters. The tour also includes exploration of a lava cave.

My wife and I visited Castello di Brolo during a two-week vacation in Sicily. The castle, which dates back to 1246, dominates the small town and it was relatively easy to find somewhere to park nearby. The two people in the ticket office were extremely friendly and gave us a short introduction to the castle’s history in good English. The displays are all housed in the keep over 3 floors, two of which show many of the instruments of torture used by the Inquisition. There are plaques describing these in both Italian and English. Some are positively spine-chilling, which makes the visit all the more interesting. On the top floor, there is a display of weapons and armour, along with a large number of colourful shields adorning the walls. Well worth the Euro 5 pp entry fee.

Just another old castel in Italy. Nothing special. The main attraction is really small collection of torture "toys".

A fairly ordinary castle with the highlight being the Museum of Tortue. Not for every taste, especially not kids!
